Well, here you have it. The following response is from Eddie Hill himself in reference to my question of the story behind the dragster. I'm super stoked at this point!

    Hey, Jason,

Pennzoil commissioned and filmed a short story of my early drag racing , and had a local guy, Paul Stewart, if memory serves me correctly, to put together a non-running look-alike of the first dragster I built when I was a teenager living in Longview, Texas. The film company hired some local talent to play the part of me and a friend as teens. They showed the dragster replica you have in motion, in the film, by pushing it and filming it rolling while it was coasting after the push, making it appear to be running on its own.

Through the years I have apparently lost the copy of the film they did, haven’t seen it for many years.

If Paul Stewart is still around here, he could probably tell you more, if you could find him. I have not heard from him in years.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Cheers,

    Eddie

The fact that it is (was) a non-running replica made for a movie explains a lot of questions about the mechanics of the build.

The connection of the car to one of the early pioneers of drag racing is priceless.

Threads like this are awesome. An oddball car then learning its history.

  10. Eddie Hill was quite a gentleman to answer your request. A lot of big names would not have responded.

very cool story, to go along with the car even if it is a replica, good score. what is even better is mr. hill getting back to you, he was one of my favorite drag racers of all time.

  16. That dragster is pretty rudimentary, it will go like crazy if you ever get it up and running. Are you doing a build thread on your model a on a 40 frame?

My plans are to get it to run under its own power. That won't happen immediately, though. I am currently building an AV8 Roadster.

I am doing a build thread, although I am a bit behind on the updates. I have put the link below. The build is a Model A Roadster on 32 Rails. I purchased the 40 frame so that I could use the X member.

Low-Blow, just saw this thread since it's Featured.
I wanted to mention that THIS is the way to ask for help/info.
Large, clear pictures and providing all the current, known info.
Hope that others will consider this as a template for how to post.
Here is hoping that you are able to get the thing cleaned up and running, Good Luck!

Oh super cool I drooled over that for years. Just talked to John and he said he had sold it. Good luck hopefully you get her going again. I had tried looking for the old TV commercial it was supposedly in but could never find it.
