ok i need some help 1950 ford custom flathead v8 its overheating. since the problem started I have had rad rodded out, replaced the water pumps , new 180 stats, gauge on dash goes to hot. I install a mechanical gauge just to be sure and it reads 210 in about 30 mins of driving and stays there! any help please thanks mike
Has it boiled over , 210 is that with just water or 50-50 anti . How Many pound radiator cap ? Normal temp depending on outside temp should be 190 .
Buy one of those infrared guns , there helpful . Check one side vs the other . If doesn’t boil over you have no issue . Does the system recover quickly after you push the car hard. Is the fan clearance 1” from back of radiator . I’ve used a radiator shroud which does help pull the air thru at idle. At idle try the bed sheet trick . At idle hold a bed sheet in front of the grill to see how the fan is pulling . It should pull the sheet into the grill .
checked with ir gun temps are within 5 degrees side to side fan clearance is 1 1/16 just driving easy temp goes up seems not to come down until eng is shut off does not boil over
