It would not been the first time I've been called an Aussie tool I'm hoping that the incredible memory of the HAMB can help me identify the tool below please. I bought it in a box of old GM Holden service tools to suit 1948-1963 vehicles. This appears a little later than that, but I'm guessing still automotive. It's stamped with Made in USA, and Wear Safety Goggles (I put my goggles on but it did not help). I also checked, and its not a Henway. Any ideas please? Cheers, Harv
There is no mystery, you’ve identified yourself. Just kidding, what they said , valve spring compressor.
If it's a Litchfield it will have a number on it, and then you can find out how many thousands you can sell it for!
If its litchfield and its one of Holden's service tools (not just a Litchfield tool) its worth a bit to the collectors of everything Holden. I was expecting a photo of Kevin Rudd, but I shouldn't mention politics so just ignore that bit . (no one in the US will get it anyway )
I've got more Litchfield gear than I should... chances are this tool was in a box of gear that had something Litchfield, Austaloy or Servex in it that I wanted. Turns out this thread/query was a two-fer one deal. I was reading Jim's link to see how my spring compressor worked, and one of the other Lisle spring compressors looked familiar. Sure enough, bought that one in a box of tools too. No idea why I need two of them, but at least now I know what they are Cheers, Harv
Both that you have pictured are quite a bit stronger built than the ones I see hanging in the local AP stores, as well as the bent up one I tossed years back
I have one like the second one pictured. I welded a 3/4 in. nut on the top, put a socket on to turn the handle. It sure saved my hands when removing stiff springs.
I bought a cheapie imitation somewhere and lucked out, it works just fine. At least 16 times anyway, which is all it needed to do.
I thought it was to pull battery cable clamps. I have one like Harv posted. “Now I know the rest of the story...”

I have two of those.... Think I will do your trick to one of them.... Save my poor old hands a little wear and tear... Thank You... LynnW
