  1. Nope, I painted it, learned about 45 years ago about paint jail from buddies cars. It was a great incentive to learn body and paint. 216101156_10219116166244243_8906627453024837099_n.jpg

  7. Well now 4 weeks, was given a 2 week time frame when I brought the transmission to builder #2. After going there last week and finding the trans wasn't even touched yet and being told it would be torn down in the next couple days, I figure I'll just let them contact me. Trying my best not to put transmission builders on the same level I hold insurance salespeople, lawyers and politicians, as far as I'll go with that. In the meantime, just chill and hope for the best.

Been there, done that. Sounds like the tale I got told. Took a little over 6 weeks to get my AOD built. My guy said he had a problem getting parts in, everybody was back ordered. Was worth the wait though.

  9. Only difference being this went to builder #2 with lots of new parts already in it. Won't be much on the new parts list for him to have on hand. Biggest stall on this so far is getting hands on the transmission, once that happens I would think things will move along fairly quickly, I hope.

  12. Well this happened today.....finally. Should be in the car sometime early next week. They had issues with it also, most major problem was the valvebody and some clearances. They got it done and dyno'ed it and it shifted 1,2,4 it skipped 3rd all together. Guy said he had never seen that in 30 years of doing these. Different valvebody did the trick. Only complaint / snafu was the torque converter. They stated they wanted the torque converter with the transmission and that was all that was said to me. I assumed they wanted it when they went to dyno it and prove the combination works together, nope wrong answer. They used my 9 mile old $400.00 convertor as a core and it got thrown on the core pile and taken away weeks ago. This was weeks before I was informed that part of the rebuild price was a $385.00 converter. I brought paperwork along with me to prove it was indeed a new convertor. So the moral of the story is never assume and make things crystal clear when dropping things off I guess. So after a "couple weeks" , 5 weeks later I have a transmission again and time to move forward. Later..... 103_1072.JPG

That sucks about the converter. Still wondering what was wrong with the VB.
    Oh well it's all done.
    Enjoy!

    Got 'er barkin' yet ??

  16. Everything is done except wiring in the new brake / transmission switch to kick off the OD, adjust the TV cable and fill it up. Busy today with life things and suppose to rain the next two days so looks like Burnout Tuesday is on the schedule ! Getting the trans itself back in took two of us 2 1/2 hours to just get it in position and two bolts in. Mainly because the front transmission ears are wider than the headers and I'm too lazy to take a header off. I managed to tweak my back in the process, so the week has been kinda slow. Getting old kinda sucks, but back to "normal" now. I'll post when I get it going.

  18. Well, sad to report it's the exact same as it was. I can manually shift all 4 gears, put in drive and I have 1st and 2nd and that's it. I adjusted the TV cable correctly and then incorrectly. I even made the TV cable bracket from the carb stud to where it now has two different holes to mount it to which moves the bracket forward or backwards 7/16". Neither made any difference whatsoever. When I adjust it taut at WOT, I then took the cable off the carb to double check things. I went to WOT on the carb and pulled the TV cable all the way out, it lines up exactly with the pivot on the carb mount. All this was done on jack stands as to not put a load on anything. Trans with the deep pan calls for 13 quarts total and I put 12 in to get the correct fluid level, so a quart was still in it from it being dyno'ed. At a complete loss again and phone calls will be made tomorrow morning for sure.

  19. Easy for me to say- hang tough, I'm hoping it's something the shop can diagnose easily, good luck!!!!

  21. Since you've changed the valve bodies more than a couple of times and they've been through it is it possible there's a crack in the case somewhere?? Is the case an md8?

  22. Well it won't hurt anything to call Dana and have a conversation with him he's very helpful and takes the time to digest problems. I venture to say he knows more about 700r4s than just about anybody. Sometimes he answers the phone after hours and on weekends also.

Yikes! If it worked on the dyno....
What are you using for the TV bracket, any pics? Did you check cooler & lines for proper flow?
I had problems with one on a 2- four barrel set up, could never get the shift points right for light throttle. Long story, ended up using a TV bracket from Bowtie overdrives. It allowed part throttle adjustment, while not changing the WOT adjustment. I just looked, the web site is down, but maybe look into that.

Will be interesting to see what the builder says!
Keep your chin up, there is light at the end of this tunnel.

  27. Yes case is a md8, guy that did it this time has 35 years under his belt on these and it's under warranty so...

Bracket is a Jet Performance brand, went with this one because it's beefy, all 1/8" construction. As for the cooler, fluid pours out of both sides of it when the lines are removed, and the lines, so kind of tells be it's flowing. Some photos of the TV bracket set-up. At this point, just want it right before the snow flies ! 103_1073.JPG 103_1076.JPG 103_1078.JPG 103_1079.JPG 103_1081.JPG
