Gents My wife's 59 flat top is beige and more beige on the inside. The beige paint's gotta GO. Yuck! Its OK for Egypt for sand camo I guess., but I live in the wild hills of the green Shenandoah Valley. Upholstery & carpet are factory fine. I'm thinkin' dark root beer Kandy brown, or black with a silver-gold mild flake top. 2x4s, or the factory 3x2 Rochesters on a progressive linkage? 97s? It already has a dual exhaust with ready-to-rumble glass packs. Mill's rebuilt. Wire wheels or the new billet sabres. I don't like the factory hubcaps. Too Plainjane. Any suggestions? Root beer 55 caddy as an example of paint choice.
I’ve owned several 59s including two Biarritz. I’ve always been of the opinion that a 59 is the ultimate, overstated design to roll off a production line… so much so that you almost have to understate the paint. Harley Earl always told his designers. “ Go all the way and then pull back a little”. It’s good advice. I’m not saying leave the Beige. I’m saying don’t make it like a Christmas bauble. When a 59 rolls into town the first thing you should notice is the design…. Not the colour.
It’s yours so do as you like . But here is my opinion,,,,,,sell it to someone that will appreciate it for what it is . It’s almost perfect as it is,,,,,it’s over 60 years old and looks like that !,,,,,the tires and hubcaps suit it just fine too . You could pinstripe it a little maybe,,,,,. You are lucky to own something in the condition it is . I’m not necessarily a fan of the color,,,,,but look at the total package,,,,,,it’s a Cadillac ! Please don’t ruin it with some crazy modern wheels . By the way,,,I’m not some old guy that can’t bear to see it changed,,,,I’m only 6 months younger than you . Drive it and let everyone admire it for what it is . Sorry man,,,,that’s my idea anyway . Tommy
I've been liking that Root beer pearl brown on some of the late model cars...Looks black 'till the sun hits it.
And here's me thinking Cadillac weren't making flatheads by 1959 What can I say, to me a 'flatty' is a flathead V8. ..and going out thongs.
You have what is considered the quintessential Cadillac and you must decide what direction you are going with it. Don’t mix genres! If you are trying to keep it classy and relatively period correct, then the root beer brown metallic with beige interior will compliment each other if you keep the whitewalls AND the original one and only Caddy Caps. Maybe some light window tint for the mysterious look too. Have some serious pinstriping added to the new paint and caps to enhance them will really wake it up too. Unless you are building a Street Rod, NEVER put ANYTHING billet on this car! Spokes on this car will bring it into the 70’s style decade genre which is ok too. Just an opinion from a Kustom guy at heart.
Suggest taking your pictures to the photoshop thread...they are very helpful when trying on colors and wheels.
That Caddy is gorgeous as is. If wanting a change a “root beer” top and possibly a set of wheels no bigger than 16”in the early 60’s era. . It’s a keeper for sure. As for hop up I’d try for stock Cadillac carb addition. Value will go up and fun increases especially with dual quads or 3-2’s.
