Technical Quick Glow the worlds greatest Chrome Polish!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Oct 21, 2021.

  1. I have mentioned this one over the years. I even gave @Rocky my last jar of it years ago then POOF! It went off the market. I first learned how well this works 25 years ago in one of the bikes shops I ran. The family that owned it was big into Schwinn Krates and prewar bikes as well as 50s vintage cars. We used it on some of the scrungiest/rustiest chrome we could find. Now it is back and the other day I stocked up on it from Amazon.

Now, the only chrome I have at the moment is the bumper for my 51 GMC but it wasn't bad enough to use as an example. I did have an Apollo muscle bike I was cleaning up to sell so I took a quick shot of the rear fender. I had previously done the bumper on my old 54 Chevy and took them from trashed to presentable in a few minutes time each.
What you see is 30 seconds worth of rubbing.

I only got the "before" (hopefully), where's the "after"?

  5. @Stan Back a few more seconds rubbing. The better quality the chrome, ie thicker, the better it will come back. This is just quick flash chrome with no nickle or copper underneath 20211021_154332.jpg

Have you used any of the other formulas? They have "Fine" "Original" and "Ultra".

  8. Some 4" stainless I have for header tips. Had some staining like on right, stained left wiped off with little effort. 20211021_155142.jpg

I picked up all three flavors. They can thank you, Trent.

I was always a Simichrome guy. Back in the 70s, the sales reps from Walthour & Hood, Louisville Cycle, and Cowan-Boze always tried to sell Quick Glow to my shop. Never bought any. I will try it now. Thanks for the tip.

Simichrome is the only polish I ever found over 50 years with "real" mag wheels. There might be something better, but I never found it. From 80ç a tube to 5 or 6 dollars, still the best. As for rusty chrome, I don't know.

  19. This stuff works Jim. I have taken super crusty parts and made them look maybe 80% of new

  21. I’ve been using Brite Boy, but it’s a liquid. I’ll try it as I like the paste style a little better.

I'll have to give it a try. I've used Flitz Metal Polish for decades, but it's hard to find, and expensive too. Works fantastic, but since it only comes in tubes, I go through it quickly on large parts.

Pre 1964 penny and gibb’s oil, gently on the pits, followed by mag/chrome polish of your choice. Old Schwinn and Harley chrome are really top notch.

Once chrome is rusty does that not indicate the top coat has been
compromised and not really plated in that spot any longer?

Yes, the rust would only start when some bare steel is exposed. It might be a pin prick, but it's still bare steel. You will need to keep on top of the polishing from then on to prevent rust reforming.

  27. Yes, this is a GREAT polish on its own for good chrome. BUT, if you have some wonky rusty chrome this will get you some more life out of the part. It is NOT a silver bullet but it makes bad chrome presentable and offers some protection as well.

This brand is popular in Britain, it may not be available in the US a favourite for motor bikes in my younger days.

Well, my 14.95 jar will be here Monday. When I get off work next week I’ll do a before and after pic.
I just got the “Original “, if it performs I’ll add to the cabinet;)

  30. Can anyone in humid or super hot areas comment on this? I assume it will go back to a more paste state as the temps/humidity subsides and still be usable again?
