If the idea can hold up much heavier things why not.

I have a beautiful Ionia HRS built frame with belled holes in the boxing plates. But the boxing plates are not holed along the entire length as there are a variety of items fitted necessary to make a bare frame into a running vehicle. In fact I've had to most regrettably lose one hole on each side to accommodate further stuff - who needs a rear anti roll bar? Anyway, my point is the comprehensive relieving of the frame pictured will either make it virtually impossible to fit necessary components and / or without same being visible from the outside, which I can't imagine will have a good look. Cool for a non functional, show rod I'm sure but just because you can....

No weight reduction if all equal gauge, as what has been cut out was equally sleeved back in, but then on a positive note looks to be well crafted .

Sibley should buy it, and build something cool with it.

  11. A little overkill but could make a cool show rod or hot wheels inspired car. Maybe a drag inspired car?

Wouldn't want it for a Bonneville roadster -- too many places to hide the salt.

As mentioned the challenge would be all the crossmember and engine mounts.

  14. so true

  15. Usually, holes are ''added'' to reduce weight. This guy went the other way to look cool. Trying too hard.
How about a poll on this thread? Don't know how to add that to a thread.
    My vote is ''uncool''..

Only strong if it stays on the jack stands..!
IF...ALL of the welds were PROPERLY done, it might stay together for a while.
BUT, on one hand, it would most likely be pretty flexy. On the other hand, there's a LOT of weld to crack and break as flex joints.

Maybe ONLY under a show only car.

  17. For a trailer queen show car that has no guts in the engine transmission and rear end and is pushed everywhere it goes. OK. If you are into that. My concerns if it would ever be powered and driven. Stress cracks at each and every weld. Yes, tabs could be added to attach cross members. But. NO!

That's a special edition Wisconsin model frame. Engineered by Kraft Foods to showcase it's cheese products. Sadly, the tin termites ate the body before the rats could get to the cheesy frame....

i drilled and sleeved that frame have a crossmember already made up for it.. i just never put it in i just lost interest in it. it weighs a ton compared to a stock frame . my plan was model A roadster quick change hemi. i'm sorry i offended the purists. but sometimes you have to build something other than a black roadster with a flathead lol

  21. and it wasn’t posted as a dig.
Honestly wanted to hear thoughts from some of the guys here with an engineering background.
Holes have been drilled in crap since the black roadsters and flatheads:):)

Belled (Dimpled or aviation style) holes would certainly add strength to the above frame (#52). A LOT of welding in OP with all the holes being sleeved over the length of that frame.

  26. Remember, most of the folks dissing it probably can't weld and drive a 4dr shitbox. ;)

While mine had half as many holes I found no issue getting good coverage. Sawhorse and engine stand as rotisserie

Being different is not always a good thing

  29. I’ve always like the look of the holes for the correct style build.
Was planning to integrate something similar for an upcoming project.
My questions would be what size hole per channel width does t take away strength.

  30. I aim for visual cleanliness. On the one I posted it meant leaving a solid inch or more above and below the hole. That is 5" tubing so....3" holes. For the front crossmember the holes were functional, it had bungs on the backside for pipe fittings and worked as a transmission cooler.
