    First change on my '36 Ford pickup was losing the grandpa crap fenders and running boards, and hood for 3 very TRADITIONAL Hot Rod reasons;
    1. Reduction of unnecessary and undesirable weight to increase acceleration.
    2. Ease of access to the power plant and accessories.
    3. The type of driving I was involved in had no requirements nor use for these old grandpop features
    4. I wasn't nobody's grandpa.
That excess sheet metal scrap all went to the trash heap on the first day, 'cause I was one of those gawd damned HOT RODDERS!

A show model with a landing strip? Are we still talking trucks? ;)

I thought that looking at this thread there'd be a clear definition for "bobber truck" but the conflicting pics say otherwise. Hahaha.

More than anything, though, I'd like to know what a "HAMB Rod" is? Is this a new, new term?

I always thought these bobber trucks were just modern-era hot rods. Rudy's truck is an icon, nothing wrong with it - it's just a modern take.

It has been said more than once in this thread that '34 and older models are really not "bobber" trucks (if that is the terminology you want to use). Why are we getting pics of these older fenderless pickups as examples..............???:confused::confused:

    It's a obsession Scan-200509-0005.jpg for a few ankle bitters.

  9. Kinda like when you need 4' of angle iron, but you only have 2 pieces that are 2' long, you make a 4' piece. Say I don't own a 32 Ford body, but I do own a 46 Ford pickup cab, some frame material, an old bed that I can shorten to fit my wheelbase, a juice brake axle, rear end, and an old nailhead laying out back. You call it what you want, I call it building a hot rod. I'd rather push one of them than drive your fake fiberglass 32.

  10. One problem with the Rudy truck is it sitting on the ground in pictures.
Yes, I know..Don't say it.... Bags are traditional.
But, look at the real 60's examples ..race and street..Nothing like this.
Shortened trucks and sedans, etc. , bagged and sitting on the ground aren't necessarily r.r.'s but you can see 'em from there. :(

  14. Before this thread I would have said the same thing. But after seeing old builds using the 35-37 cab, I’d call it Rudy’s version of a rare traditional style

I see that point. My thought is that Rudy's truck was a game changer. His may be tied back a "rare tradition" but the whirlwind it inspired - I'm not so sure. They for sure tie back to the 2000s.

The trolling and obfuscation/muddling of pics in this thread is going to have a bunch of folks confused, calling hot rod and custom pickups "bobbers" now. That's weird.

  16. Yep. A hot rod truck is a hot rod truck
To the un trained experts it’s a bobber.
But a bobber can be a hot rod and some bobbers are not.
It’s all a waste of time anyway.
Build what you like, make it function correctly and enjoy it.
If ya post it here and the bosses like it, cool. If not, it disappears.
    No biggy
The HAMB doesn’t define traditional. It celebrates it. The mods define what fits the forum.
I’ll give em an overall A+ for their creation

discussions like this always dig up cool pictures and personal stories.

"Bobbed' means shortened. The OP did not state post '35 only, which is what is being used by the naysayers. And again bringing up RR's for examples of post '35's to further their cause.

  18. I didn't use the r.r. term for any cars pictured here. Sorry that it offends you.
We're having a discussion here, about whether or not these trucks are traditional.Anyone can offer an opinion as to where these trends come from.
How about Patina Rod for the Rudy truck ? That okay?

Nothing singled you out for the Rodney Rod's. The bobbed trucks from back when. Uncommon back then yes. 'tina is like the other 't' word used & abused.

    Let's check with the builder.
@1927graham , would you call what you built a "bobber" truck....???

One of my favorite pickups by the way, and in my eyes, not a bobber.;)

Bobbed. You keep the 'bobber' labels for what ever purpose it serves you.

Dude, give it up! I don't know what it is you think you're proving here, but all your doing is showing your ignorance, stop it! Do us all, and all the folks that end up here after clicking on a google search link, a favor and go back and delete all your pics of fenderless pre-35 hot rod trucks. Stop embarrassing yourself and try to save some dignity, quit muddling the picture. Why you gotta shit post?
