    ATTABOY!!
    It's rewarding to see a stalled project that I bought in GA back in Nov of 2015 because of a chance meeting at the Dawsonville Moonshine Run a couple weeks earlier with the the friend of a guy I had bought a 1940 Ford pickup project in 2013. They were admiring my 36 cabriolet and read the owner's name and started looking around!
    I found and installed a 302 Ford/AOD combination and installed it and got it running and on the road and drove it over 400 miles. I had the new top installed and the interior done and then passed it along to Jack... he added the green:eek: among other things!!:D:D
    Jack and his helpers really stepped up to finish the car and give it a nice overall theme with some neat touches.:)
    I'm honored to be a part of such a chain of events. Ain't hot rods fun?:)
    Especially 1936 Fords!!:D:D

    Hey Al, thanks for the kind words:D.

    Soon after I got the car from @Hamtown Al , my buddy Roger and I tore the car apart for a "frame on" rebuild...mainly to check/fix any of the original build and to do body and paint. We were happily surprised at the high quality work done by the original owner and Al...and the car needed virtually no mechanical re-work:D. It was a great little car, and most of the changes we made during the rebuild were just body work, paint and cosmetics. 36 load1.jpg

    my 36 as it sits now, and interior shot.. my plans were to add more hood trim.. I have a set of skirts .. my car is running 40 Ford bumpers now ( did have LaSalle's at one time) still on the fence with spots.. the 36 in the post above is beautiful..

    As an owner of two 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery hot rods, envy was the moment, every time I had to open the hood to do some changes or modifications to something. The large, smooth fenders were to lean on to get access to doing some mechanicals. It was not the best, even for young bodies. but, we worked with what we had and hot rod repairs, tuning and replacements continued.

    I had seen a 36 Ford Coupe with the side opening hood and access to the lower reaches of the motor compartment. It seemed to give a lower angle of reach and action. plus, one side was available with a lighter weight louvered hood that could be pushed up. the small single side hood was not a giant pointy nose hood raised to the sky.

    The 36 Ford had each side available down to the lower motor area and full access when folded up. It was not as heavy as opening the whole 1940 Ford steel hood in comparison. Or for that matter, the opening steel hood of our 1940 Willys Coupe. The other version had a small solid top portion of the hood while the side panels moved out of the way.

    It sure would have been nice to not have to lean over the big rounded fenders of the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery or when we had to do some work on the 1940 Willys engine compartment between rounds at Lion’s Dragstrip. An easier access would have prevented an arm straightening episode when the 292 SBC starter dropped down as we were fixing it, between rounds.

    Since RPUs were always a favorite for both my brother and me, I drew what was a rare, if any were built, 36 Ford RPU. The front grille was just begging it to be turned into a roadster pick up. The cool grille, the side louvers/vents, the unusual hood, all were a part of being different in builds. Access to the motor compartment would be easier as well as stylish with the long louvers.

    But, as teenager’s growth spurts are a thing for a lot of people, we had to take into consideration that there was just not a lot of room in a standard open RPU seating area. The Model A coupe told us that something was going to happen to the inside seating area if we had kept the coupe for the first time hot rod build. Two big teenagers had a cramped seating style inside and that would not do for cruising around or even driving in the upcoming races.

    So for this first round of artwork, the standard Red color open cab was extended and the bed was the long version. Now at least two big teenagers could fit comfortably inside.

    For the second round of designs, a normal open cockpit body style would be used and the seats modified to be pushed as far back as possible with a short bed for matching design of a pickup. The rake would be a design that could not be passed up in the roadster pickup style.

    Finally, a lockable bed cover inside and lower than the rails to keep the old hot rod style in place when viewed from the side or behind. Valuables like a short surfboard or camera equipment that would be away from prying eyes, when making a pit stop at a diner or on road trips.

    Since we're still posting to this older thread, I may as well contribute. Here are my 36's:

    5 Window: I've owned this the longest. Old custom turned drag-car turned mild-custom (the last time by me) Always an Oregon car and owned for a period by Wayne Mahaffey.

    Phaeton: Old show car from the Bay Area circa 1959-1962, owned by local collector in Portland from mid-60's until 2015:

    3 Window: It's story can be found here if you want to read it: Estate Sale – ironandsteele but the short version is that it was just someone's old hot rod. I had it chopped by East Bay and am almost done putting it back together enough to drive it again:

    Roadster: I just bought this, that story is here if you want to know about it: Life is strange – ironandsteele The short version is a guy came over to buy a part from me for his project, and a short time later I ended up with that project... Plan is for a complete build into a nice traditional custom car.

    We all love 36s so please post additional pictures and this crowd loves hearing the stories behind the cars... it seems the longer the story; the more they like it!!
