Like the title says. I have a 1937 Ford that I'm looking for someone to turn my drums and arc my new brake shoes. I live close to Edwardsville IL. just east of St Louis. Thanks, Mike

  2. Hi Mike, I live in Waterloo, work in downtown St.Louis in the Truck Repair industry. There is a truck parts dealer in St. Louis called Tractor Trailer Supply. They are located on Natural Bridge, they reline their own brake shoes. You might try calling them to see if they can do it or know of someone who can.

I would advise you to stay clear of Tractor Trailer Supply, they ruined my '37 brake drums and then a few years later, i was crazy enough to take the brake shoes for my '48 Indian to them. Destroyed them also.

These wide five drums are getting hard to find, I definitely don't want them ruined.

Once you get the drums turned you can arc the shoes yourself. Get some 36 grit sticky back sandpaper and stick it to the inside of the drum. Put the shoes in the drum one at a time and sand the lining until the sandpaper contacts the entire shoe lining. Do this to the shoes for each drum, as the drums may be turned to a different size from each other. Done.

  9. That is so upsetting to hear. One more old shop bites the dust.

  10. Call your local Early Ford V8 or Model A club and ask for recommendations. Be sure when you drop them off that the guy knows what he is doing, has done it before and has the correct tools.
