  2. It is amazing how few photos have surfaced, considering how many people attended those shows over 60 years.
I still am looking for a photo of my friend Gene Custer's 1950 Ford Convertible semi custom built by Fairlane collision. Coral color paint with a white top. Late fiftie's.
Also the 1940 Ford coupe with flames in the 1958 show. Owned by Pete's custom collision and flamed and striped by Paul Hatton. I was there when they painted it
Great memories for a young kid, now an old man.

    Hi!

Lovely photo, I work for a television show and was wondering if I could get in contact with you to obtain permission to use some of your photos for an episode.

Email me at [email protected] if you're interested!
    Thanks!

Used 1962 Ford Mustang Concept 1 chassis and did things like moved radiator(s) from sides to front, raised rollbar incorporating rear glass, installed real windshield, re-styled front to accommodate radiator etc.

ETA: If you look closely you will see details like the steering wheel, dash and rear quarter panel lines of our car that made it into first generation Ford Mustangs.

I did not know this thread existed also. As a 83 year old ex Michigan hoodlum I knew many of the people mentioned in the thread. I was the one who built the old timing tower at the New Baltimore drag strip.

just saw online that Gene Winfield will not be at the Detroit Autorama. says that it is costing him too much money and can not afford to go. He apologized for this. maybe some other time. On another post said that he will be doing some metal work training seminars. no details on when or where. pic of items I purchased from him. 20240222_113632.jpg
