Features Coupe or Tudor ?

What would you rather own a 1940 Ford Tudor hot rod or 1936 Plymouth coupe hot rod ? Flat head V8 or flathead 6 if you had speed equipment for both .

 

'40 Ford all day, every day.

 

For me the Tudor would be the obvious choice.

 

40 Ford is far superior to a 36 Plymouth. Much more desirable.

 

The Plymouth is snazzy

I must admit that I'm a die hard 40 Ford guy too.

 

No the 40 is s Tudor standard

 

But tudors are for people who can`t find a good coupe.

 

I'd still take the Plymouth, all things being equal, which they never are. Buy the one in the best shape.

I’m happy with the ‘36 Plymouth. It was pretty far advanced mechanically for the time. Good styling and a roof line that looks like a mild chop if you squint your eyes a little. I still run the flat 6. Just can’t give it up. Sometime wish there was more room for the grandkids.

 

Smart dollars are spent on a ford but the 36 plymouth is a good second choice. Coupes are always cool

 

Other than personal taste or resale, think about parts. People always moan about parts availability, or lack of, for non-Fords.
I'm sure that's at least partially valid.

 

Plymouth for me but I never did follow the crowd either......

I prefer uniqueness to popularity.

Here's dad's 40 in about 1948 and yeah I'd like to have a 40 but I like coupes better Dad said it had too much power for the chassis

I am biased, for sure, but I would step on a 36 Plymouth to get to the 40 Ford

 

I’ll throw this wrench in the works. I have a project that is the worst of both these worlds, 1935 plymouth slant back two door coach. It has a great profile, looks naturally chopped, and nice swoopy 30s lines, nice headlights, looks good full fendered. The 40 ford looks great from the back, need to be convinced about the grille and headlights.

 

By 1940, maybe Ford caught up with the better built and better engineered mid 30s Plymouths, maybe...
The 40 Fords sure were not on par with the 40 Plymouths.

Hands down, I'd prefer to take the Plymouth coupe, but at this point in my life, the condition of each car could play into it.
