I built a roadster with a 300 4 speed and just love it, the torque and sound of the exhaust alone are enough to make my day.this year I drove it to Billet proof (280 Miles) and got over 20 mpg pulling a trailer at 65 to 70 mph.
a 300 inline will tear the ass right out of a 302 and a flathead for for power to weight and torque i run 2 and love them both.
That's right, crossflow heads do not exist. A 300 weighs about 490 lbs - about 30 lbs less than a similarlly equipped 302 V8.
Well I got half of it right. I'll blame my MS for my bad memory, should of known because my F-100 sits slightly higher with the 300, than it did with the 223 & three speed.
Where does this project stand? Did the chopped '51 ever get that 300 six? EDIT (a few minutes after this post): Just checked his profile. yblock292 was last seen in 2014. Oh well...
For what it's worth, I messed with an off topic 79 f150 4x4, and put an Offy intake, a modified AFB (necked down to 450 cfm) and efi split manifolds with a 2 1/2" exhaust on a .060 over 300 in front of a 4 speed granny trans an 3.50 gears. I don't think a stock 350 Chevy, 351 Ford, or 360 Dodge truck would overhaul it. She ripped.
