Back story to these pics. I was born in 61 and in 62, my dad and another fella started an auto salvage yard in our hometown. I spent the better part of my youth there. 0374199A-D073-4B2B-AB0E-4085807DA1F8.jpeg
We had a local doctor like most small towns did then, and he had a hill farm about 7 or 8 miles from town. As the yard would run out of space, he would let my dad and business partner haul the lesser desirable stuff at the time out to his farm and push them off into the gulley. Myself and the grandsons of the other partner would get to ride in the wrecker when these trips were made. Quite an adventure for three boys 8-10 yrs old. I’ve always thought about those trips and wondered if there was anything left of the stuff we shoved over the edge. Fast forward to this past weekend when my cousin, who coincidentally had married the docs granddaughter years ago, texted me some pictures from said hill farm which she and her brother had inherited. Low and behold, there were the remains of a lot of the stuff that I’m sure we put there in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Needless to say, I’m going out there in a couple weeks to look around. 87997473-4189-4E5B-9301-AF070802DF66.jpeg FE6B6032-1DC0-482D-A94D-472682F71880.jpeg C25CECEC-4912-4288-99EB-B85109C8C154.jpeg 0BF957CE-A367-46F5-BA76-7BAC90542E76.jpeg ED496609-92C3-4CC1-B077-00C3EEC462FA.jpeg

Great pics of the dump pile, although kind of a shame.

This car was bugging the shit out of me, I had to rotate it and crop it to figure out what it is, I think it's a '56 Plymouth.

I believe you are right. I was thinking Dodge Coronet, but not sure if they had the same fin up on the quarter panel.

Will do. I’m gonna wait till it cools down a bit. There are lots of copperheads out that way and the hotter it is, the nastier they behave. Lol.

  7. I see a decent AD Chevy/GMC truck cab and several frames for AD Chevy/GMC pickups in that pile.

  8. Looks like a nice set of gauges on that '37 Ford truck, although it probably has the big truck speedometer that only goes to 60 MPH and has the markings showing when to shift gears. The '42-'47 big truck may be just a shell but the cab is the same as a '40-'47 pickup and it appears to have a decent set of doors. Floors are rusty but can be replaced.

That pile is amazing. Why would your Dad have the bodies hauled out there? Didn't they scrap out bodies for the metal? Or weren't they worth anything and just needed a place to dump them?? WOW!!

A hulled out body wasn’t worth much back then, and I’d guess they all thought they were doing good by keeping the hillside from washing away. They always ran a dirt track car back then. I’m hoping maybe one of them might still be out there. Ya never know.

They used the engine from them in the Massey Ferguson Grey Fergie. I've got 3 of them and they are still plowing and they were built in 1949-1950. Strong old buggers.

Wanderlust, we sure could use those Buicks being pulled out of the weeds! I see several parts I could use.

A55143C0-454A-4022-9082-3443671B97C2.jpeg They’ll probably be hauled out eventually, not by me as I’ve no place for them. Property just transitioned to the son and it’s a bit overwhelming for him right now, to clean out 1 40x80 Quonset was 5 truck loads of engine parts, and there is 5 more similar sized buildings to go, everything is going to the scrapper right now. No need for panic or anguish, the majority is heavy truck, farm related. Besides the buildings there is about 18 ac. of property covered in vehicles, trucks, tractors, combines, gen sets and other miscellaneous stuff, I do think that once he gets on top of things he will probably start parting things out and selling stuff, I also think we should pay heed to what we’re leaving for our children to deal with when we’re gone.

  24. post#18378,
What makes you think it's a 52, duo glides didn't come out until 58.
If the motor is a 52 pan in that frame you can check the serial number on the side case,
it should read 52 fl (74 cu. in.) or 52 el (61 cu.in.) and then the serial numbers.
Ex. 52 FL 1234, anyway it's 1958 frame or later and no frame numbers in the 50s.
    Good luck, nice looking bike.

My father had one of those and probably the first car I remember that we owned. Early 50's and I was about 3 or 4 years old.

  30. I've always liked this era of Packard. Sorta homely in a way - I guess I like 'em because they aren't all that common. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the tail lights seen here are the same as those on some of the '47-'49 Studebakers.
