Hot Rods What year, what manufacturer is this? Any ideas

Just bought this on Sunday and figured I'd go to the well on what it is. I think I have an idea, but don't want to taint any thoughts or ideas. Thanks in advance

Late 20's Hudson or Essex.

 

With only one photo and I can see the back of the cab, I would guess a 30/31 Model A closed cab pickup with a cowl vent added, the firewall is not 32-34. HRP

Looks like a sedan with the middle cut out. Definitely not Ford. The visor will probably be the identifying factor.

The Essex has "suicide" doors (but the subject has only one hinge on the front pillar?).

1930 Hudson has a similar piano hinged door and single cowl vent, but the lower hinge sticking out is odd for Hudson.

The one in the photo is an Australian car- I think the body was built here, and there were usually some differences from the U.S. body.

There's something really wrong with the door being hinged like that.

 

looks like a nice beginning for a 'bobber' pickup.....

 

1928 Hobart. The back cab center rib gives it away along with the metal square framing and radiused window corners. The center indent in the firewall accommodated the straight 8 flathead. The upper door hinges were mounted inboard to reduce the exterior adornment and increase advertising space. Did you get the sections above the doors and the roof? They can be difficult to reproduce but have been done. The roof itself would have six channels running from front to back to offer rigidity. That cab alone will bring a premium $ if advertised in the proper forums. I'm talking antique commercial vehicles forums and the right person found that is looking for one to restore. Cutting it up into a bobber truck is just wrong and should be avoided until the proper buyer or restorer can be found. You really do not know what you have.

 

My money says the front half of a 29 dodge victory six fordor. Looks exactly like mine.

Trollst, does the firewall match your '29? The visor is a match for my '28 Victory Six, as is the basic door shape and the inner structure around the rear window, but not the firewall and cowl sides...

I know that there were LOTS of changes to the Victory Six in the 18 months they were made (including long hood/short cowl and short hood/long cowl), so it's totally possible, and I DON'T know the '29 changes very well

Oh, and Roothawg, I have a spare visor for my '28... somewhere...

In 1926, Willys–Overland introduced a new line of small cars named Willys–Overland Whippet. In the economic depression of the 1930s, a number of Willys automotive brands faltered. Stearns-Knight was liquidated in 1929. Whippet production ended in 1931; its models were replaced by the Willys Six and Eight. Production of the Willys-Knight ended in 1933. There was also a pickup truck version of the Whippet, called the Willys-Six C-113 (reflecting its wheelbase in inches). This was not a sales success, with a mere 198 units being built. This vehicle was picked up by International Harvester, who installed their own 213-cubic inch engine and offered it in 1933 as the International D-1.
