Okay, I've read a bunch of threads about tuning an Edelbrock 1405 but I still don't have the answer I need. Will an Edelbrock 1405 work with a 58-62 stock mouse motor 283? I'm using a 283 because it's my choice and I didn't want a 350. I'm thinking about using the Edelbrock because it's like brand new and the guy I bought the 283 from threw it in the deal. About the most radical thing that's gonna be done to the 283 is boring it to .030 over and putting a pickup cam in it.
It should work. What intake do you plan to use? The original 4bbl might not work with that carb, although with the proper adapter it could. If you are using an aftermarket dual plane intake, it should be OK. Those carbs have a secondary air demand valve, so it acts like a 2bbl until it needs 4bbl airflow.
Thanks, Jim. That's the kind of info I'm looking for. It's been so long since I've seen the two aftermarket intakes I've got under the bench that I can't honestly tell you what they are. I'll check in the morning. Hopefully I can use one of them.
I have 2 cars with "stock" 283s that run 1405s and work just fine. Both also run an aftermarket Edelbrock intake.. with the logos ground off and the front oil fill tube drilled and installed.
