My first car. Bought it when I was 18. It was a ten year old Chicago 120k mile rust bucket. Had it for twenty years. Sold it so I could buy a finished pre-49 rod. Phil
Blowby is that a California picture? I remember eating at a "Sizzler" here in NY with my 57 Chevy parked out side. Was in the 60's before I went to Vietnam. I think they faded out by the 80's. Pat
Great thread. I just dragged this one out of a barn the day before yesterday. I've been trying to buy it for 9 years. It finally came home. IRONANDSTEELE.COM
I'd just clean it up, make it roadworthy, put some wheels on it and drive it. Don't over restore it. Enjoy it while you can.
After 9 years - congratulations. Please think very hard and long before pulling this one apart. Get dirt off it . Look into YouTube videos of CLR paint clean up. No Sanding , not Evan Schotbright Get her
Perfect starting point for a hot rod! It's yours now, do it your way. A friend has a stock '55 Del Ray. Many tell him ''that's the one you don't touch''. Hooey! Who's he supposed to be saving it for?
Brought mine home a couple of months ago. Bought it in '98, stored at a friend's garage 200 miles from me since then. Kids are moved out, I'm retired, planets aligned, and now it's home. Needs quarters, better floor, but plan to have it rolling again next summer. Not finished, just driving!
Heard about this one 3 years ago. Was told it was stored in a building at a nursery and was not for sale. 2 weeks ago I took a chance and drove 80 miles to knock on the owner's door. He said he had owned it for 26 years and was just thinking of selling it. We made a deal and I brought it home.
B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L ! Its amazing how nice the original hub caps and wide whites look! Chevy stylists were the best! Stunning Nomad!
Personally I would use the old wheels or American Racing 5 spokes. Now it looks like every other restored 56 Nomad. Plain Jane is just.... plain.
Looks pretty standard to me. I won't be going to the tri five nationals only because that many over restored tri five Chevy's will bore me. I would rather show my Nomad with other customs then the restored crowd and have to listen to them gripe about my custom paint, or wheels, or my after market glass that is not the right date code. Or the bolts that hold my hood on are not GM. Lowered or not, stock is just - stock. A change personalizes the car to you. Step out, be different, pick a different wheel but stay within your theme. Meaning no Billet 18's. Gag.
