You guys are starting to make me really miss my FE. Time to start search for car or truck and FE engine. At this point, I’d take a plain Jane more door with a two barrel!
While all of them are really fun , My Shag Nasty go to is the Tunnel Port! I will try to post some pictures to show people what was making the BIG HP numbers, 54 years ago.
From what I read online, Ford made a few pairs of aluminum head castings for the Lemans GT-40 cars.... sorry no pictures...
Is there a current reproduction 427 cast iron block available? I recall a few years ago reading about a batch cast, I think, in South Korea, but can't find anything now with a quick Internet search.
Thanks for posting the pictures, you beat me to it. I have a pair of Tunnel Ports that came from OHIO George Montgomery's race program. Crazy port dimensions.
For what it's worth, I found the currently available reproduction 427 iron cylinder block, it's from the "Bearblockmotors" company: Looks like a nice piece, here's the link: https://bearblockmotors.com/bbm-cast-iron-ford-fe-engine-block/
Always looking and shaking the trees for a 427..... but man... so many have had brutal abuse... this came up locally and the price was $500..... but I think you would need $5000 to repair it... if it even was possible. Bronzed, no strength , and some of the pan rail is gone... woof.
The BBM blocks are very good, and sell out pretty quickly when a batch comes in. There are also Pond blocks, which are very strong, and the Shelby block which is good but big bux. My only aftermarket block is a Genesis, which has not been made for a long time, at 4.35 bore with a 4.25 SCAT crank for 505ci. There are quite a few heads now, but pretty unavailable, as the Survivals and Trick Flows etc. are cast by Edelbrock, with all of them out of the picture for a while with Edelbrock's move to escape Kaleeforneea. The Edelbrocks are the mundane ones now, but there are places with good CNC programs for them. The Blue Thunders were very good, but they haven't produced a run in a long time. Pond heads are nice, except they are made for legal NHRA use, so they have the old-style machined combustion chamber. BBMs and Survivals, and some of the Edelbrocks, have a modern heart-shaped chamber. The Trick Flows are similar, and currently slightly stronger out of the box. The Dove heads were unique in that Jim Dove could make many different combinations of ports and chambers, but suffered from porosity problems. I have a set of Pond CNC's, BBM CNC's, and a couple sets of Dove PIE heads (Paquet Intake & Exhaust) that were designed by Ray Paquet, High Risers with raised intake and exhaust ports. One set is ported and run, with the old-style chambers, but I recently came into the second virgin set that has the tiny "Glidden" chambers, basically unfinished chambers for a fresh canvas. There are also some next-level heads being developed with radically different ports and manifolds. One can also build a new Cammer with pretty much all new aftermarket parts. There is a lot of support for the FE these days, even belt cam drives and such. And that brazed-up block may look scary, but many have had their skirts repaired like that and live again, usually victims of the infamous "tri-lobe" rod bolts in LeMans rods
Listening to the sound of a 7000 RPM wail, exiting out the back of a highly tuned 427... shall not be soon forgotten!
Some of us prefer the HM logo or a C7ZX intake, weird I know a glutton for punishment. BUT once bolted on I feel like that guy in that vintage Rockford- Fosgate picture... You know which one- back in the 70s I think.!
