heres a cool old custom rod came out of long storage recently. 1940 Ford convertible with Buick nailhead engine, Lincoln Zephyr trans, 49 Plymouth bumper, emblems shaved, custom interior, Zephyr steering wheel, spotlight. The previous owner said he bought it in 72 and it had been in storage several years before he bought it. It’s real solid and in good condition. A cool custom/rod..I’m really interested in seeing if anyone has info on the front club plaque “Sidewinders “ out of quakertown,pa that’s on the front bumper.
Congratulations...always great to see survivors...storage hasn't been kind but there's still plenty of the greatness left to bring it back...You have a Friend in Pennsylvania...
Wow! Clean it up, freshen up the fluids and mechanicals. Add a set of vintage NORS seat covers and drive it. I'm guessing the original builder had eventual plans to hop up/dress up the Nailhead, paint the car etc but never got that far. Met a nice Gal, settled down and the ol Hot Rod went on the back burner. It happens...
UPDATE! Got the Buick Nailhead running today after almost 50 years of sitting! Video to follow..Also, through an old Bill Of Sale, I located the original builder of the car! He's 82 years old and still lives in the same house where the last owner bought it. I tried to speak to the builder about the old Ford but he just hangs up on me. I'm not sure why..Maybe bad memories for him or he thinks its a prank..I'm going to write him a letter with some pics and hopefully he'll contact me..
Drive it over to the original owner's house and park in his driveway. He'll either come out with a smile or a shotgun.
That's great that it's running again! I just bought a '41 Cad convertible that's been sitting at least as long and I'd like to get that to run again as well, mine also has the stitching coming out of the otherwise untorn top, hoping to be able to repair it rather than replace it. The 70's picture is priceless.
That’s a neat car. Cool that you got it running so fast. I hope the old timer comes around once he’s used to the idea that it’s running again.
