Checking in, nothing new to report except when I pulled the tarp off the car the seat was covered in cat hair. The local cats have been using it as a hang out I guess. Guess I need to drive it more

What you need, is the coyote that has taken up residence in our rear yard ! He/she has cleared the immediate area of pussies that like to occupy car seats !!
Had a bead on it three times, then thot…. Hey haven't stepped in cat shit, while mowing. Well truth is that Mrs is mowing till after my body work this Friday. Boy howdy does she light up when stepping in cat poo !!!
So, Im planning menu to keep my new dawg happy to stay put for awhile….lol

So I am on the hunt for a replacement rod bearing(s) in a engine I have. It needs freshening up.
The rods have a shell bearing that was made by Vandervell and has a stamped number 403936
The crank journal mics at 1.83590" and the shell is .080" thick and 1.065 wide. No oil groove.
Any ideas? Any help is appreciated

  17. Hmm.
check the bore diameter in the rod, if 2.000 more than likely a Volvo B14 bearing.
if 2.021 dia, more than likely a TR4 bearing. I suspect it is the TR4 as your crank dim is not standard undersize and fits the bearing better.

  19. Yeah, good luck with this
    Vandervell #675 or 535 '47-'64 Bx4 motor
    Clevite CB539P
it should be noted, crank journal should be 1.8735-1.8740 standard, less .040 1.8335-1.8340

Let us know how you make out, J

  20. Can anyone help decipher this for me.
Got a decent hot flathead, would this be suitable?

  21. Saw your IG mess., will reply there later.

But based on the gray paint, it could be one off an old Danish Civil Defence eingine, usually used for pumps at a certain rpm - therefore the cut-out with centrifugal weight below the rotor, which has to be removed, or you will not exeed the set (to low) rpm.
Looks to be in good condition, but... test it! Put it in a vice or (preferably) a spare head with spark plugs added, heat it with a heat gun and drive it with a hand drill - the heat lowers the magnets effect, similar to when running it on the engine.
Set up right, starting is easy:

Note to self: don't be lazy and crimp the overflow tube behind the radiator side bracket when the solder breaks and say 'good enough'...its not.. and when the tube vibrates and cracks the solder joint at the bottom of the top tank you'll be doing more work than you ever want to.. then again its a model a, you always have to do more work on it than you want to..

  23. I plan to! Unfortunately the mag is on the east coast as we speak. I was thinking of chucking it into a vice, using a distributor lower shaft in a drill, and see how much spark it makes.

The tag shows 400-0* 1340 - 8* which most likely means it has 16* of advance at 1340rpm, is that enough?

  25. That's how I did it - video must be on FB, can't find it on my yo'tube channel.

I wouldn't know - I just put it in the car in the suburb parking lot in '09, and never really looked back. The mag and the Weber is about the only constant in that engine compartment, since I installed them.

Folks, Who are you “Go To” vendors for the basic Model B parts. Things like rear main drain tube, oil fill/breather tube, gaskets, etc.
