Picked this up at an estate sale. Has the Missouri state seal on it. Maybe off an old courthouse, school or state building. Solid brass, has to be pretty old. Any Missourians recognize it?
Very cool. From the wear pattern showing, it's seen a lot of use. Make a great shift knob, especially for someone in Missouri.
That's pretty cool. Missouri is interesting history, St. Louis was once the end of the line practically speaking, before settlers entered the Great American Desert, the maps had a kind of "here there be dragons" angle to it. Huge chunks weren't even surveyed. The last place to stock up on any supplies before hitting California, basically. Their state seal has that Federalism style to it I like.
A little more research and it looks like it might have been from the state capitol building. I saw it listed in a person’s state house door knob collection. I was told the knob is dated from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The second capitol burnt down in 1911. The first also burned down but that was in 1837. So I’m guessing it was the second one. Well, now I only have 48 to go. I think I already have Maryland’s….It has a tax form engraved on it.
Born and raised in Missouri, but being an ol farm boy, I never seen one. We didn't leave the farm much.
