I am so sorry to hear this...Rich and I never met but he did school me years ago on the Ford GAA 1100ci aluminum tank engine as he had some for sale. We never quite made it to making a deal on them but he was wealth of knowledge and very encouraging in what I was thinking of doing with them. Godspeed Mr. Fox...

This dude was nuts… and I totally respected him for it. Gonna miss him.

  3. Another person that said "why not instead of why"? RIP Mr. Fox. My sympathies to the family and friends.

I went to high school with Rich, Carlmont in Belmont. We sat across the table in freshman study hall.
He was building a 3 15/16 x 4 Olds. at the time. I knew he was destined for greatness.
    RIP Rich

There was a previous post of Hambers you would like to meet. He definitely would have made the list.

Condolences to his family. He never failed to add something significant to the conversation. A mechanical artist, much more than a craftsman. Godspeed.

  16. In 2018, Rich Fox joined the FLASHPOINT A/ Blown Fuel Streamliner team:

Flashpoint Team (Robert Dalton ~ Don Jackson ~ Rich Fox).jpg

The car performed well during testing at Speed Week in August:

    Flashpoint - Speed Week 2018.jpg

... and it performed even better at the USFRA World of Speed meet in September ... but during their back up record attempt, the 'liner lost the left rear tire at the 4.5 mile point ... and crashed heavily at ~427 mph:

... Bob Dalton was out of the car 30 seconds after coming to a complete stop and fine:

... the car, not so much:

I am pretty sure that I lost about 10% of my remaining hearing when I backed down and started that engine.

Were you on the Support Team?...what an unbelievable incident to walk away from relatively unscathed...I understand the sequence of pictures are from separate meets...I think...

  24. Really sad~~~
Rich told me a story of how my dad convinced him to run Torco oil in his early Roadster, he was extremely grateful for the tip.
Now they can talk about it in the Spirit World.

    .

That’s what I was wondering….then @FuelRoadster posted a pic in #84 above that seems likely to be Rich Fox and bears a strong resemblance to the man pictured in #81……o_O

Sad, sad news, hot rodding, land speed racing and the HAMB have a new hole in them that cannot be filled in. Thanks @jimmy six for letting us know, nobody ever wants to be the bearer of bad news, but we appreciate being informed. He will be sorely missed.

I went there with Rich for test-n-tune in 2014. The crew was kind enough to let me do a few things.

I regret not wearing more hearing protection.
