We lost HAMB contributor Rich Fox to cancer on Sept 29th. He was a retired United airlines machinist who definitely thought out of the box with his turbo GMC’s and fantastic flathead 4 cylinders with overheads that had no business on them and injection systems. A few his engines are on display at Speedy Bills museum in Lincoln Nebraska. He was a great LSR friend I met in the 70’s and we stayed in touch all these years. When he contributed here you could take his words to the bank….. I will miss my friend…JD

Condolences to the Fox family and friends in the passing of Rich...yes I have read along with Rich in many Threads over the years offering sound advice...He certainly had done the go fast walk and really pushed the lesser idolized engines for all their worth...a sad day indeed...May he rest in peace...

Thanks for sharing this loss to the Community @jimmy six

May he rest in peace, He will be greatly missed on the HAMB for his expertise in answering questions and just because we loved to read what he had to say.

I was intrigued by his Y-block cylinder head adaptation on the Plymouth four banger, he definitely thought out of the box. Without a doubt nobody wrung more horsepower out of a Plymouth PB engine.
    Godspeed Rich.

I first encountered Rich, while I was doing some panel making on a salt car with a supercharged Dodge 4 cyl, 10 years ago. He was one sharp cat ! RIP Mr. Fox.

He took me up to Bonneville one year, and showed me around.

He was a solid dude. There will never be another like him.

    Rest in peace, friend.

...I found this and evidently he was well travelled in Hotrod and this was one of the ones he wished he could have got back...

I often mention the connection of Aviation to Hotrod...this is one of those as Rich had a career in Aviation...so his skills learned in that field certainly were reflected in his go fast adventures...

  10. I owned a 12 port Howard head he used to own many years ago. It was cool to talk to him about it.

    He will be sorely missed.

I am very sorry to hear this. I didn't know him, but very quickly learned to always read anything he posted. He did some amazing things with some unusual components.

It's a little O/T , and he caught some flack for it, but didn't he also run a vega with a Packard in it at Bonneville? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/v8-vega.171145/

Within the Allpar links I saw Vega and Packard mentioned...

    He quoted within the article...
"I put a 1955 Packard V8 in the Vega, since I have never seen a Packard powered car at Bonneville."

As mentioned he did challenge directions...and achieved greatness...it reminds me of racers like Spurgin/Giovanni not sure which maybe both collaborated in doing engine mods fitting other brands and creating to achieve better performance not yet realized...

I have seen that Woodstocky lettered Roadster many times...dated early 70s...but didn't realize it was his roadster which certainly reaches right back to 1958 in go fast...probably even furthur...so cool...I wasn't even on Terra Firma yet...

    RIP Hotrodder

My familiarity with Rich Fox was limited to reading his posts here on the HAMB and the Inliners International news letter. But as mentioned by others here, his posts were always a ‘must read’. A fellow who was not a serial poster, but one who occasionally weighed in with information, commentary and advice backed up by a depth of experience that inspired much respect.

My sincere condolences to Mr Fox’s Family and Friends..

    Unfortunate.
A go fast fella with lots of nuts and bolts engine history there.
    Very enjoyable and informative posts.

No longer in pain. May Rich rest in peace.

  27. The 1986 pics there ,,,in the background .

Is that Rich’s Orange Vega with the Packard engine ?

I always enjoyed reading his post about engines,,,,,,lots of innovation in his engines .
Who could imagine doing some of the modifications that he dreamed of doing ?
I always love seeing something done that people say is impossible!
