    Hi
i have an issue between my 1940 Ford rear end and my 1928 speedometer and i don't get it.
On the torque tube i have a speedo turtle and that's connected to the speedo via a cable.
when i spin the speedo clockwise (looking at the rear face) with a power drill, speedo shows a speed and odometer counts up.
when i connect it to the cable and drive forward
, speedo stays at zero and odometer counts backwards.
So it seems that the cable drives it in the wrong direction.

was there a change in the cable rotation direction between 1928 and 1940?
    thanks
    FJ

Maybe take the cable off at the speedometer end and see if it even turns.

I know that some adapters reverse the rotation, not sure on your application, can you post a pic of cable end/with how it attaches, and a shot of the drive end.? ?

I don't have the answer to your question but as I recall from about 2 years ago in my 30 model A speedometer the cable turned counter clockwise looking from the back.

If the nut on the turtle is 7/8-18 a 90 degree adapter is available to reverse rotation but they are not cheap. Parts to build them have been on back order because of “supply chain issues “.

    hey guys
thanks for all the answers! i will test if it is possible to turn the turtle 180 degrees.
i looked at my old ford chassis catalog and maybe i mounted it the wrong way around. i still wonder that it meshes with the gear but let me check..
    thanks Jan
