Back in the mid sixties I had Headman Headers on my 57. They were made to fit 57-59 Plymouths with the poly motor. If I remember correctly they were four pipes into two and then into one. They connected to your existing duals and there was no collector. I had plumbers pipes on each side behind the front wheels and everyone around here called them dumpers. We would unscrew the ends when we went to the drags. Does anyone here still have anything like this on their cars?

I realize that. I was just curious if anyone still had the old school type on their car.

Look at Speedway or Summit for exhaust cutout's...
Like I've said I've installed them I think they work great.

I don't think I've ever considered using a threaded pipe and cap.
That would be down and dirty. Old style. Archaic. Kind of funky and clunky. But durable and effective. I like it. I might do that. Just because of this thread.
It'll go well with the funky clunky full flow exhaust manifolds I want to build.

I haven’t seen those in decades, but they do bring back memories. A friends older brother bought a new ‘62 Impala with a 300 horse 327/3 speed and in ‘63 he had 2” pipe welded on with pipe caps that were easily unscrewed.
He got the idea from a neighbor that had a ‘56 Chevy 150 sedan that ran J/S and had the same galvanized pipe on that car. The J/S car was called Do Run, Run and the name was a take off on the Crystals 1963 recording of Da Doo Ron Ron.

I saw a few like that back in the late 50's early 60's. I think one of the local guys had a pair on his early 60's F100.

Old chevy oil filter housings with the caps. Cut a hole in the header pipes and weld them on, Use the caps and bolts.

The good working ones had caps on the headers with the exhaust pipes welded to the collectors. Just adding pipe and caps to the headers mostly let the noise out, the exhaust had a hard time making the corner.
