Technical New fuel sender original 32 Tank?

Has anyone added a fuel sender for a Stewart Warner gauge to an original 1932 ford tank? Is there a sender that is close to the right size? I don’t want to cut this nice original tank. Thanks

 

I thought Stewart Warner made a fuel sender for a 32 back in the day. I see them every once in a while at swap meets.

 

The issue with the 32-34 tanks is the fuel pickup. I've not seen a modern sender that fits these tanks that has both.

 

I was thinking of adding a pickup to the modern sender

 

Thought all that was needed was the correct hole pattern and correct Ohms . Set the float arm.

 

Just buy a new tank. Sell the original or store it away for your auction.

 

I redrilled the new SW sender pattern in the top of the original sender 32 hole. But, I had to weld two bungs in the top of the tank also, one for the pickup and one for the vent.

 

Classic Instruments p/n SN33.
Combo pickup and sending unit, 240/33 ohm, 5 hole. Adjustable sending unit and arm. Shorten the tube.
I redrilled and tapped my stock tank.

Nope. Just a vented cap. No problems, but it’s a stock 59AB flathead and fuel pump.

 

Thank you, do you know what fitting the fuel line takes? Seems to be some confusion in the reviews.

I do not recall ever seeing a aftermarket for original gas tank.
That what I would do & have done ,
Made my own , bolt in Original tank using Original pick up pattern.
No big deal , time ,thinking it out ,
Silver Solider, braze , weld .
Original tanks are nicer "fit "the only advantage you have over aftermarket would be an extra few gallons, & trimming required.

 

Old age memory lapse, but I used a regular inverted flare male/female 90* elbow and inverted flare nut with steel brake line. Made it so I could slide the tank to the rear far enough to clear the body and access the sender. Pic is from the build thread a couple of years ago.

I found a generic standard replacement sender probably from napa. The only problem is it reads full to half, half being empty. I’m guessing I didn’t adjust the float right.

 

Should I add a vent into the sender? Does the vented cap leak? I am running a 283 Chevy.

Welding a Bung in with the proper 5 bolt hole pattern is best and there are numerous sending unit options for sneing units...Float style and tube style...Call our tech line at 231-582-0461 and we can assist if you need further help, but I see you had lots of help and I am late to the party.
