Damn, Cory, every car you build is better than the previous. So, what's next?

Really glad to hear it runs as good as it looks. Due to the OT induction, that is no small feat for a fresh unknown combo, and while I can understand why you have not covered that portion of the build, I think it is a reflection of the extreme planning and execution that the rest of the build has exhibited.
    Well Done!

I'm real pleased so far! The math I did up front to calculate my desired bar rates turned out to be right on.

    That's high praise!

As I was driving through the Eisenhower Tunnel (11,000') in the roadster on the way to California a couple years ago, I couldn't help but think how much better that car could run if it was tuned for the conditions. Obviously, it was only a section of the trip where the car ran poorly due to the elevation, but that's the number one improvement I'm looking forward to with this setup.

Oh, and the highly consistent idle quality is quite nice too.

We finally got enough snow here the other day to put a stop on driving the car for the winter. Prior to that, I had steadily been driving the car, even on the 20 degree days! It's been doing really well, with a bit over 1,000 miles on the odometer.

I have a few projects this winter to work on, so I guess I'll get started on those now!

When you get caught up I have a project I could bring you. You work quicker and better than I ever could. Great work.

Cory, There's not another 5W or even a 3W that looks better. The chop proportions are right on! It really is a museum quality creation. Look forward to seeing your car if you make it to the West Coast.

Cory, If you had been working for Henry in '33, they would have come from the factory looking just like yours ! Absolutely the best I have ever seen.

The snow has been flying, so I've been working some projects that I put off this summer.....

I wasn't real happy with the front hub dust caps. They were reproduction screw-in caps, which I had planned to have nickel plated in an effort to look similar to the polished stainless lug nuts, but I ran out of time to get them done before the car hit the road.

I browsed the McMaster catalog, and found a rounded stainless cap in the correct OD to make a dust cap. I picked up some 2" OD stainless tubing as well because the caps needed to be a bit deeper to clear the end of the spindle.

I cut threads in the tubing to match the hubs, then cut "slugs" to be welded onto the McMaster caps. After the welds were dressed, I polished everything. I think these look better than the hex shaped caps?

The coolant had been finding its level, spitting out some of the overflow. I had a rubber hose routed down along side the radiator, which constantly wiped out the left front fender well.

I didn't want to add the typical street rod style recovery tank, mostly because I didn't want to see it. So, I decided to build a smaller tank that could hide along the inside of the drivers side apron.

Again, I picked up some stainless tubing and end caps from McMaster, along with a threaded neck from BungKing.com. I also built a baffle that sits over the inlet (not in the picture) to help prevent anything from getting out of the overflow side. After the last photo, I painted it low gloss black to match the frame.

I didn't have a drivers side mirror on the car, but definitely needed one. With a passenger, I could have someone check over my left shoulder, but it was always sketchy if I was alone!

I guess some of the delay was finding a clean way to hang a mirror on the car. I didn't want to drill the door skin in any way, and my efforts to tighten up the door gaps meant that an edge clamp arm wouldn’t work. I saw that Ray Forbes had a creative solution on his newly finished '33 3w, so followed his lead!

I picked up a 3" peep mirror from United Pacific. I was only going to use the mirror head, which I liked because it had a convex lens to expand the viewing area. From there, I fabricated a stainless bracket that attaches to the return flange of the window opening, out of 0.125" stainless flat stock. I welded a 3/8" post onto it, followed by a piece of 5/8" stainless, with the inside machined to accept the mirror mount. The window channel is sponge rubber in this area, so it conforms around the bracket without pinching the glass.

With the welds dressed and polished, I got it installed for the final time.

  23. I guess I've been living underground with Encino Man for the last couple years because I somehow missed this thread until now, just spent an hour skimming it and I'm going to go out and light all my projects on fire... kidding of course.

I have been around Hot Rods since I was born almost 45 years ago. I spent every summer NOT going to Disney, but rather NSRA events. I have had a feeling lately that I have seen it all in 45 years of this hobby, and nothing is new under the sun, and maybe I should take up something else. In other words, I was getting bored. This build reignited my passion. Thanks for that.

What a pleasure it had been to come upon this thread and see how such a beautiful hotrod was built. I would love to see how the interior turned out, I imagine it's every bit as good as the rest of the car.
