There was some real crap built by kids and greasers back long ago. My dad made some odd suggestions for a Model A I was trying to build in 1970’s high school. He said “that’s how we would’ve done it in the ’40’s”. I knew better, but I have seen some ratty examples, built way before the term that shall not be named was coined.

For us it went jalopy = early race car.
Doodle Bug = home made farm tractor.
Cut Down = home made pickup truck.
Hot Rod = any hopped up car.
Summertime Convertible = any car or truck with the roof cut off. Usually junked or sold before winter.

 

Yup.
Pretty much the same nomenclature here in the midwest.

 

We called it the 'vanertible' lol
