For him to have miss placed a decimal he would have had to have been upping his own bid from $120 to $138. $138 wouldn't have beaten $152 so he wasn't bidding against that. Why would he be rushing to up his own bid?

 

If the second high bidder was trying to put in $185 and instead hit 1385 it would make sense how it all happened. Keep in mind all of those final bids came in at the very last minute, both high and second high bidders could have been scrambling to up their bid at the last minute as it went up, $135 (or much more likely $185) and $141 could have been getting punched in when the price was still at $120 before it had even jumped up to $152. Instead a couple extra digits got stuck in by those two bidders and the price suddenly jumped from the mid hundreds to the mid thousands. No time to try to retract a bid at that point.

Probably a fairly rare occurrence, but when you consider how many auctions are happening at eBay at a time, it's almost bound to happen once in a while.

 

Well the taillights got sold to the third place bidder for $152.00
