Does anyone know information about these? They are edmunds customs for a Cadillac flathead but I have never seen a listing for them in a catalog. Thank you
Are they chromed cast iron? Very interesting, I'd like to hear more about these but I have no real info to add.
Those sure look like manifolds for a '37-48 Cad flathead and if they are Edmunds they're fairly rare. Edmunds also made a two carb manifold for the Cad flathead. If you want to sell them check out the Cadillac-LaSalle club forum as I've seen a few members seeking both the intake and exhaust manifolds. The ones you have do not have the cross-over manifold which appears to be blocked off. The original cast iron ones were black porcelain, which popped off at temperature. Regarding the Cad flathead, it was stout, we used them in tanks in WWII and I drove my '37 LaSalle about 100,000 miles with two different flatheads in it. I've now installed a '76 Eldorado 500" engine and she's nearing completion.
I'd have to dig, I had the Edmunds brochure from 47 or 48 for speed parts and those certainly were not listed. Just intake and heads. I've never seen anything like those with a center dump, but I've only been messing with and chasing parts for them since the early 2000's so I'm regularly surprised by new (old) stuff popping up. I was wanting a set of the non-crossover ones that dump out the ends, have seen but missed out on. No need to go to the Cad-Lasalle club to sell if you are. I'd be very interested myself, been trying to figure out exhaust on my current little cadflat project so they'd go to immediate use.
Marine manifolds would have water passages in them. Caddy's in boats go way back. Chris Craft used them, Besotes out of the bay area exclusively used Caddy's and most of the marine suppliers offered mounts and manifolds well into the 70's, even for the torque pig 500 inch.
They were used in ski boats. Errol Flynn the actor had one. The other marine application was in landing barges during WW2. Also used with pumps and generators. The ultimate crate engine of their era...
Never seen a set of manifolds like that. Possibly purpose made for a special project. Could be military or marine. Remember there was some R & D done developing the 3 engine Tank setup, so there may have been other similar projects that died after the war finished...
1951 price sheets list exhaust manifolds for the 331, but nothing for 346. Anyone have tank motor maniolds to compare ?
tank sounds like a possibility..ill google it..i know there were 2 side by side in the WWII tanks....Torque mosnters...
These are the ones I'm hunting Russ. The front exit, without the downpipe on the passenger side, and no crossover. If anyone knows of a set on a shelf somewhere, maybe we can work out a finders fee!
