Does RPM stand for anything other than the the normally associated definition? I would assume it is a “by invitation” event for bangers and flatheads.
@Jive-Bomber Jay's cool "squareshots": UPDATE: For more of Jay's pics, checkout his (October 30th 2018) TJJ Blog entitled Take Your Kids to a Drag Race!
It was a great opportunity to see some real historic cars race. Ray Brown and Navarro cars were very cool! Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
As far as I know the RPM is just the normal Revolutions Per Minute that we’re all familiar with and it’s not an invitation only deal. Anyone with a flatty or ‘banger can submit an entry but the guys that put the event on do choose from the submitions as far as I know. I don’t think they limit entrys to be elitist or snobs, there just isn’t a ton of room at the venue and a limited amount of time to get the show done so entries have to be limited. This isn’t a B.S. elitist deal or an event where the promoters only let in their buddies, it’s REALY fun and laid back with amazing cars and good people. If you get a chance to go do it, you won’t regret it!
I wanted to go this year so dam bad, but just could not make it work for me. Thanks for all the great photos from everyone of this outstanding event. Thanks to Hop Up for putting it on and all the people that helped out.
And BTW at Santa Barbara "The Race of Gentlemen" DID open up another class at the last minute (almost) for 1935 and older cars powered with SBC engines...
I searched "RPM Nationals" and just not many threads on the event. None covering this year. Too bad, it's such a great event. HAMB people don't seem to care about it? Or the people who care aren't on the HAMB any longer?
I believe @J.Ukrop is going to do a post on the journal in a bit. but in general event coverage isn’t really much of a thing on the hamb anymore
It really is a great event. We went in 2019 and had a blast. One of my photos from that year was chosen for the official event flyer for 2020 and I was so excited to go, and then covid hit. They still had the event, but closed to the public, and I wasn't invited. We planned to go this year, but it turned out to be a working weekend for me (after a year and a half of no shows at the House of Blues, we finally got booked again, there was no way to turn that down. Now we've got 4 dates booked there in October!) So I missed it this year. Thanks for the photos and videos, it helps. I see a lot of familiar cars. Besides the drags, there is also a car show with a ton of cool cars; and a swap meet. Almost too much good stuff. Vs the HAMB drags, the RPM Nat's is limited to earlier cars with flatheads and bangers, while the HAMB drags has later cars and a lot wider ranger of engine types, and a lot faster speeds.
Here's a few screenshots of my video of this years event. It's currently being edited as we speak! I'll make sure to drop a link to the video once its live. Now here's the question.. was this shot on film or digital?
Perhaps the best thing about this year’s RPMs was the 3 Baldwin Specials actually racing. A big tip of the Vipers top hat to the crew at the track. Thanks guys.
