Pulled this out of a scrap pile. Any hints on what the manufacturer may have been or suggestions on groups or forums to post to and find out? Update. There was some conversation about what year and make it was. A gentleman on here was kind enough to offer several times to buy it for $400.00. I decided to put it on that big online auction site with a $400.00 starting price and apparently a LOT of people knew what it was. A 1914 Flying Merkle. The bidding was spirited and the frame is now in Montana.
Try "Wheels through time" Dale Waxler (SP) is now deceased but identified my Grand Fathers 1910 Indian Single by a picture. His son is deeply into keeping everything going at the museum and may be able to help. It does appear to be an old motor cycle.
Would have to dig into my archives for a definite answer, but at a glance it looks like maybe a 1910 Flying Merkel. I would look at some pictures of a 1910 Merkel, and maybe some 1910 Reading Standard pictures. Rectangular tank, crank bracket, and upper rear frame legs location, is what you want to use for identifying. Zane.

Very sorry to read that Dale has passed on, meet him a few times at Oley, Pa. and enjoyed his TV show. He sure did a lot to further the Vintage Motorcycle hobby. Rest in Peace Dale. Bob
I heard about it and it was either late last year or earlier this year. He did a lot to further the vintage bikes and did not like to show one that would not run. It is rumored that he would ride them inside the museum to keep them limber.
I think Dale was one of the youngest guys to have a Harley Dealership, before owning one was trendy. He had to have the vision that old bikes would be "collectable" and took them in on trade if the buyer of a brand new bike couldn't fully cover the cost. Bob
yes man the generator shovel is my favourite motor..just had a 75 S+S stroker 88ci twin plugged andrews B grind cam went well
a big bore version of mine ???.i considered one of those ,but just ran out of cash.the 1200cc shovel i started out with with a B grind and twin plugged heads was a sweet little motor but i blew that 1 up hence the wallet busting rebuild to 88ci
I had a 59 Sportster back in the 60's I restored it then sold it. Wish I kept it, although I am getting too old to feel safe riding now. Here is my last bike (another Sportster)I restored and sold it around 2003.
