I definitely did not mean this to be a dick wagging post. I love building cars with a period in mind. When i go to the track and race, i am very much the odd guy with no electronics, no rev limiter, and no adjustable suspension. My goal is to know what it was like for a drag car back in the time i biils mine for, and that to me is as hamb as it gets.

Yup. Mine is no electronics, no fancy suspension, no rev limiter, no line lock, 7" wide tread on the slicks, 12" converter in a mostly mid 60s correct TH400, etc.

Not many guys are into going fast, that also are not into modern ways of doing it. It seems to be challenging, but it's not really, if you just can resist the temptation to use modern stuff.

Only Hamb friendly car I ever raced. My daily driver too back then. High 12s. Now for the excuses.. I ran old Radial T/As, no slicks, already blew the IRS once. 3:08 street gears. Also the exhaust runs through the trans cross member, no open headers. And 12" front tires. And I had a tummy ache.

Had much faster cars but post '65.

Nothing wrong with your thread Jim. The HAMB is something different for everyone here, not what one person thinks it is. I've never owned or raced anything HAMB friendly, but love all of the drag racing threads and pictures here. All of the other stuff is pretty much just white noise to me.

  9. Damn straight Steve. Watching drag week this year, my wife asked "so what do you think your elco will run?" I told her that i would jump for joy if it ran a 13.99. She said "that's it?" I started dying laughing! Guys like you have made her think it's nothing to run a 10 second pass.

Nope, your '55 was faster than me but Jason Shafer won The Cup with a 10.62. As for me, I dug into my bag of drag racing excuses and found "I blew an intake gasket". I'll get you next time.

Jim, your Chevy II is a bad mofo, but your '55 is no slouch either. You drove that 'ol girl all the way from Arizona and banged off low 11s if I remember correctly.

That was the year I barfed an intake gasket and changed it in he pits. On the way back, I got 20 miles from home and she 2 pieced the crank shaft. She knocked like hell, but still made it all the way home. Tossed another crank in it and that little motor is still in it to this day and has run a best of 10.60 @ 128.

I've never run my Austin gasser in the 1/4, but made many passes over the years at the 1/8 mile track nearby. It runs mostly close to 8.0 flat, but has occasionally run in the high 7sec. range. Speeds run around 94-97 mph.

This ones best was a 13.04@104+ with a stock head GMC 6. It’s been toned down for its twilight street years. 2639AE1C-30B9-461E-8E8C-6BB2844147D7.jpeg A3F699A6-3EA6-47F1-A1BB-AA358ACB4B56.jpeg

Flat 15.00's all day long, straight off the road, no special gas, no noise or smoken tires, just manual over ride on the auto tranny.

14.00 @ 100 on street tires. 13.4 @ 102 with 7" x 28" slicks. 289 [+.030] with 271hp cam. Drove it to and from drags. Drove home twice with a broken axle, not fun, good thing I had had a locker back then. 51 at Colechester Dragway.jpg

Don't really know, wife won't let me. It should be real quick with a 2000lb. car &500+HP in a 383 sbc stroker motor. I got a speeding ticket a while back but the HP didn't provide a time slip..............

Well, Jim's full page time slip proves the old saying " no time slip, then it never happened" ;):D
I race bikes, they go fast:p

64BD32C4-1AED-4C85-80E1-EEA902B62293.jpeg On a more serious note, I did see some really bad rods at the Knoxville Dragway for the SEGA event on Saturday. These were just a few of my favorites! 27. My 40 horse model A runs sub 30 seconds 1/4 mile times. I bet that thing is in the low 20's

Just a better 4 speed away from much better times. Thankfully my wife and kids love spending days (whole weekends sometimes!) at the track. I usually drive the car there unless I can borrow a trailer
