    Hello,

For all of the TV shows we have been watching, we noticed that almost every vehicle in shows, in and about Texas, are inundated with trucks. The older the story, the older the trucks. Even in one of the newer hot rod rebuild programs, it was said that “trucks and Texas go together…”

But, in this past several months, we have been watching the streaming series Justified, with Timothy Olyphant. We watched it every day, as if it were an old TV show that came on nightly, from start to finish. There were times we wanted to jam through a couple of episodes in a row, but we stuck to a nightly series since the end of January 2020. The cast of characters is long and varied.

Despite taking place in rural Kentucky in the modern times, the country side just happened to have their share of old trucks. The TV shows are fairly authentic in their representations and old trucks just fit the scenery in the hills of Kentucky, even though it was filmed elsewhere. (some in So Cal.)

It is not for younger family members as there is violence and some innuendos that are not appropriate for teens or the younger set. It is free and on Hulu for the complete series/seasons. Hulu streaming service is free for the most part, but it comes with advertisements. If you do not want advertisements, then there is a monthly subscription fee. How wonderful it is to watch movies and shows without commercials... If we wanted those wasted minutes, we would have stuck to regular TV programming (a 30 minute show takes 20 actual minutes).

In the different area other than supposedly, the Kentucky hills, the Florida Everglades is shown. This 53 Ford truck plays a part of that location.

This was the first series that was filmed elsewhere, like most Hollywood productions, but certainly gives the feeling of being in the rural Kentucky hills. It was based on the book series, “Fire in The Hole” by Elmore Leonard (a 4 book series). Trucks and all…

One of the characters was an actress that we recently saw in a more modern movie, "Booksmart." The Justified series was her at 15 years old and was an integral part of the whole series. The one thing that we thought was different was the southern area accents of most of the characters. At times, there were some character’s soft moments, with accents so thick, that it was hard to decipher the conversation. But, in the end, it was a great show and we kept seeing cool trucks in this whole series, too.

So fire up your binge watching of an excellent series and/or break out the novels by Elmore Leonard. They certainly will make the “locked in place” go by easier for most. YRMV

Local to where FTF, are you in NJ? My friends father-in-law built one in the mid to late 50s. It was in Kingston NY. I posted it on here but can't find it. I'll try to find the picture. Obviously I found the picture, story was it was a totaled 4dr. hit in the rear.

Not NJ, the shores of Lake Erie. Pity FoMoCo didn't build them - it would have been relatively easy. I really like the looks of them.

    Hello,

We were driving in South Central OC and came across another red 56 Ford F-100 truck. This one was a pure 1960s hot rod truck. The 5 spoke mags made it look fast and mean. The lowered rake gave it some stance. The color red stood out for blocks as we approached the location. The overall look was custom truck with attitude.

The area was busy and if I stopped to get out for some photos, it might look like I was trying to steal it. So, we drove by and took our photos from the car. Another nice custom Ford F100 truck in So Cal.

The tint may be a little too much, but if the car was originally from Arizona or those Southwestern states, the darkened windows are ok. Here in sunny So Cal, driver’s side windows are not legal to tint in any degree. Pun intended. The front? definitely not... It is a “removal ticket” and can be done easily.

The red F100 truck is a great example of a So Cal hot rod truck...IOHO

  15. This is a friend-of-a-friend's pickup and trailer. At first the green of the '41 Pickup didn't really grab me, but with the matching Aerolux Trailer and the addition of the wood graining, the combo is super, IMHO. The truck owner started with the Aerolux kit and built the whole thing himself. I'm impressed:

    Hello,

I saw this 1940 Ford pickup truck running around the coastal area one day. It was a very nicely done hot rod truck. The red paint glistened and fit right into the Christmas holiday RED motif.
    upload_2021-12-29_4-29-2.png
Again, my tired old driving eyes were concentrating on the road and surroundings, so my wife saw the bright Red old 1940 Ford Truck from a long ways away. We continued our Christmas decoration/errands drive and found the truck in a different neighborhood a little later during the cruise.

The Red paint stood out from quite a distance away, but it was the custom yellow flames that made the look, just right. Not too garish in the overabundance of flames, but tastefully done to highlight the overall hot rod truck design.

Again, a closer inspection of this cool looking 1940 Ford truck is necessary, but it remains to be seen somewhere in the So Cal coastal areas. It is perfect for delivering the Christmas holiday gifts and dinner supplies. Pandemic and all for small families… YRMV

    Hello,

We saw this old Ford Flatbed Truck a couple of years ago in another coastal beach town. It was one of the only 32 Ford flatbed trucks that had style and attitude of a hot rod. The Moon Discs played a big part of the overall look. At the time of the first sighting, it had no rear stake bed siding rails. It just hauled, (pun intended) anywhere it went. We saw it in several different areas of the whole South OC coastline locations.

Then one day, while we were driving around, my wife said that the cool white 32 Ford truck was parked ahead. She has a better hot rod sight line, as I am concentrating on driving and not getting a ticket in these old age driving days. So, while we were driving by, a quick photo from the digital camera was taken.

Now, there are some nice wooden stake bed side rails and it was hauling, another pun, various car parts and such. Primarily, two steel crates and red taillight lenses, etc. were the main item seen.

In recent times, again, my wife mentioned that… “a funny looking toy car was in the flatbed area of that cool white truck.” It was the same 1932 Ford White Stakebed truck and this time, had a Maroon color, quarter midget sitting in the flatbed.
    upload_2022-8-29_5-27-40.png
When I gave my wife the digital camera to take a couple of photos while we stop at the red sign, her mistake was to look in her outside rear view mirror and see this monstrous SUV on our bumper. Now, it was panic mode and those huge SUV vehicles actually are scary in the right circumstances. (Especially with a small blonde lady barely able to look over the top of the steering wheel.) For my wife, it was a point and shoot as fast as she could. But, I knew she was not liking the situation with the huge SUV behind us.
    upload_2022-11-15_3-52-22.png
We had no time to stop and take more photos. The traffic was piling up in the whole intersection. Especially that blonde haired lady in the big, honking, Pink CADILLAC SUV that kept inching closer.

That wider than a pickup bed on the 1932 flatbed truck has seen plenty of different items to move from one place to another. But, a quarter midget? Wow, shades of those early days at the So Cal Los Alamitos Raceway for Quarter Midgets and some little kid ripping everyone a new attitude, in winning the races we saw... @Dean Lowe

It is a true “hauling” hot rod flatbed pick up for the times… YRMV
