I've been chasing a miss under load for a long time and finally found it! Couldn't be the yellow silicone wires I put on new years ago.... could it? Yep! the '40 now has original 1951 Ford plug wires on it now and the miss is gone. 1 of the pins in the cap that the wire presses onto was corroded and the plug wire was black inside. Cleaning the pins and trimming the ends off the wires didn't help at all so grabbed some old REAL wire plug wires off a parts car '51 and another engine I had laying in the shop. 1990 called and wanted the yellow wires back so I trashed them! We took the car out for a cruise tonight after doing little things to make it better for the '40 meet. F-100 front brakes tomorrow.

    Dave

Update: F-100 brakes are on the car! Time to quit for the night. Just need bled.

Really glad there’s a second one, ‘cos that means there may be a third, and flights might be available, so I’ll be able to attend! Sadly not this year tho, no flights to US from UK. I’ll look forward to pics from this year, and next years event..

This thread has been kind of quiet. Who all is going to attend this weekend?

Will do Bret. We will be staying in Walnut Shade at my cousin's place. He wants to come to the meet with us if that's ok?

My high school buddy Jonny and I will be there again this year. Hoping to get into Springfield a bit earlier this time!

  11. Guys, I apologize for being quite a slug and not hyping up the event, but since it's kind of a laid back kind of thing, so be it. I know that there's somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 Forties that will be part of the event, which to me is a win.

Big thanks to B-Scott and Lisa Haines for getting the shirts to me today. I still need to go through and get them all sorted between now and Thursday.

I did talk to the host hotel and they advised me that they are sold out of rooms, for any slackers who didn't get booked ahead of time. They recommend the Sleep Inn, on Camino Alto https://www.choicehotels.com/missouri/springfield/sleep-inn-hotels/mo023/ if you still need to book a room.

Friday night will just be a hang out at the Quality Inn.

Saturday, we will meet in the parking lot behind Garbo's Pizza starting around 8am. We will leave the parking lot at 9am for the 2 lane back road drive down to Crane City Park. I'll have instructions printed out in case you find yourself separated from the group.

I don't have any food trucks/trailers scheduled for the park, but encourage you to either pack a cooler or frequent the local dining establishments. Hickory Grove Cafe is always a fantastic choice.

Thanks again and looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

  20. I went over to the hotel after getting cleaned up for the day and Dale (@Weedburner 40) and I went out for burgers at Bair's. For you out of town folks, this is over on the corner of South Campbell and Westview. I think they have 30 different varieties of burgers on the menu, so there is something for everyone. LOL

Afterwards, we came back to the hotel and sorted the t-shirts and stuffed the goodie bags. Dale made window stickers for the ones we knew would be there (and a few for folks who won't make it) and there are some blank ones available. You'll have to see him for some double sided tape to stick it in the car, though.

I'm running down to the shop to bring the panel truck up to Springfield so Lyle's (@Crocodile) buddy Jonny can drive it. Figured it may be more fun than having to ride shotgun for him. I should be over to the hotel around 1ish to start handing out goodie bags for those who arrive this afternoon.

Had a good time and saw a bunch of cool cars and met a lot of nice people! Best t-shirts ever!
Here are the pics I took.

Thanks Bret and unknown helpers, it was nice to meet you all!

  23. Dave,

It was so cool for you guys to make the trip out to our neck of the woods and to have you be part of the event. I have yet to count up the number of paid and registered folks who didn't show. I got a handful of messages and calls letting me know that life happened and they had to skip.

It was quite a pleasure to meet you and Florence. I absolutely love your '40 sedan, too. I had several folks tell me their two favorites of the day were your and Lyle's sedan, and I would have to agree.

As usual, I spent most of my time visiting with folks and the end of the day selling most of the remaining t-shirts, so I didn't wind up taking any photos. I know Jim Stainer took a TON of photos, both last night and today, and I believe he told me he would upload them to a photo sharing website. Once I see his post on FB, I will share it over here. Probably tomorrow or Monday, would be my guess.

  24. And a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped support the event by buying t-shirts. I have a stack of them with postage printed waiting to be stuffed into envelopes. They will go out on Monday. Those of you who registered and paid, I will have your shirts here at the house. If you are heading over to the Gathering at the Roc, I will bring them with me over there and can deliver them to you there. If not, let me know and I can drop them in the mail to you.

Huge thanks to @Weedburner 40 for all of his help. Dale was kind enough to come over a day early to help sort and stuff t-shirts into bags, as well as printed some way cool window stickers. He also was willing to be seen in public eating establishments with me on several occasions this weekend. And a big thanks to Sharyl Stears and Jonny Zastrow for volunteering to drive the stake truck and panel truck to the event and back.

I believe that one of our friend's kids has a wedding planned on what would be next year's event date, which unfortunately would mean I would have to move the 2022 date. I will be working on getting a date set and hopefully we can get that nailed down in the next couple of weeks and get it announced.

Again, THANKS to everyone who came and was a part of the event, and for those of you who supported the event from across the country by purchasing t-shirts. I couldn't make this thing happen without you.

Ate my last meal at Hickory Grove Cafe this afternoon; they are closing their doors after September 30th, bummer.
And I got a few photos in between visiting with folks. Thanks Bret, Dale and everyone else involved. I really enjoyed my day in Crane.
