  1. Went back and read the rules for the 742 time, i don't see anything against it, history goes back before 65, and I'm contemplating going with a single turbo on my El Camino. Any thoughts or experience?

  2. Spool is cool but I’d rather be blown:D

I'd be interested in a turbo education too. I had hoped to find some sort of guide to size a turbo from engine displacement, boost desired, and RPM range. I've found nothing. Almost seems turbo sizing is some sort of black art.

I guess I could contact some turbo manufacturers, but at this point my interest is more of curiosity than ready to really pursue adding a turbo. My application, in my mind, is a great place for a turbo. 2.5L Chevy S-10 engine in a Model A Coupe. All of the benefit of a small engine but just adding a little grunt.....maybe pick up 30 or 40 HP?

Check drag racing sites as you will find info on turbo installs on SBC

  6. Yeah i was all about a nitrous kit, but I'm kicking this turbo idea around right now. I'd love to find somebody that stuck a single turbo on a first generation sbc, especially a 283, to tell me that it was worth it, or it was a waste of time and money!

  7. Lots of youtube vids on it.

Well if you ran a Turbo charged engine out of a 62 F 85 Olds you would be legit. Or adapted the same model of Turbo that came on the F 85 or the 62 Corvair Monza spyder turbo to a small engine it would be legit.

I'm thinking that there are some early 60's Hot Rod or Popular Hot Rodding and maybe Car Craft articles on just that.

I feel like turbos here are like discussions about air ride.

The technology existed, it was utilized in some factory cars during HAMB-relevant production years, but it's viewed as "non-traditional" so it gets your thread locked.

  12. Then lock it up, that's why i asked. Hey mark, shut this down. @Moriarity

Barney Navarro ran a turbo AMC straight-6 in an Indy car...and he's a 'Traditional Hot Rod Hero'.
