Yep I need to know if any one here kept their Dana 44 in the merc with an engine swap. I’m thinking the original yoke with the 1 inch u joint won’t stand up to 300 hp. So did anybody swap yokes in the 44 I know Jeep uses newer 44 and so do some trucks but can’t find any info. Emailed Denny’s driveshaft and they don’t know so asking the hamb. Any info greatly appreciated
Quick performance built Dana 44 for third gen Firebirds and Camaros back in the 80s and 90s. I had a 44 in front of a 440 on slicks with no problems.
Not a Merc, but I replaced the Dana 41 in my '51 Ford F-1 with a Dana 44 out of a '67 IH Scout. The F-1 has a 350+ Hp 351W in the front and the Dana 44 has never missed a beat, but I am on my 3rd transmission.
Third trans that’s hard man. Thanks for info. I think the rear end will be great but the little 1 inch u joints on it worry me that’s why I’m looking for a heavier yoke something has to match up I hope.
If perhaps there are some old Mail Jeeps around from the 70's that were AMC built - they all had Dana 44 posi's in them with little use - should have a better yoke.
Haven’t decided on what motor to use yet, I have 3 that would keep it hamb friendly all over 300 horse.
