Helping a young friend rebuild his brakes on a 1964 Belvedere and we are struggling with the pedal going away, gets deeper and harder to push. Rebuilt the power booster and new master. Is there a residual pressure valve or bias we need to reset? Stock set up single master.

Free play between booster pushrod to master piston too tight.

What was the original problem? We need to know so we can determine if the problem still exists or if you created a new one.

Pretty basic system. Master, lines and wheel cylinders.

Does the booster seem to make it stop easier until the point it gets too low to assist the pedal?

How does the pedal act without the engine running and vacuum depleted from booster?
