The DeSoto sees the light of day. And I see that polishing paint in the garage needs to see the light of day so see where I missed...

    Hello,

After weeks of cloudy, foggy at the coast and very wet misty days, it was bright and sunny on a 1968 Saturday. So, my wife and I took a road trip to visit my parents at our old Westside of Long Beach house. My mom actually wanted me to paint the garage door as it was showing weathering from the top to the bottom, with the bottom showing the worse wear due to the splashing from the roof on the cement. She wanted it done before the wet days of winter started.

But, because it was a nice sunny day, my wife and I just wanted to visit and sit in the warm sun. She started talking to my mom inside and when she saw me sitting outside, she grabbed my 35mm film camera and took a photo. At the time I had no idea that the image would stay with us for so long. For us, the warm sun was great, not the sunburn exposure kind, but the warmth the whole day gave us.

The Beach Boys had a great song that talked about the warmth of the sun. But, in that song, most of the wording was the opposite of my wife and our relationship then, while extending throughout our lives. (Other than “The warmth of the sun, it won’t ever die…”)
"My love's like the warmth of the sun
    (Warmth of the sun)
    It won't ever die
    (It won't ever die)"

Note: The day ended with the garage door not getting painted, but my mom and dad, taking all of us out for a nice dinner at a local restaurant. It was just a great warm day to by pass the "warmth of the kitchen" while cooking. My mom appreciated it.

Yeah, it reminds me of the golden retriever and chow mix we used to have.... We got her as a puppy and had her for 14 years.... I sure miss that gal...:(

Had to read about the history of SC license plates after seeing yours with ‘The Iodine State’.

Figured I’d give the thread a bump and an update on project. Coming out of its summer home in a shipping container and seeing daylight with the shop foreman who is progressing quite well unlike the roadster. See post 13. 662EEFB8-93D1-4945-AFD4-0CA0BB0CF905.jpeg

Found it in 1962, sold it in 1975, got it back 2001. I don't expect to be driving it soon.

Just mocked up at a show, but taken probably about 5 years to get to this stage. Body and some chassis work done by Rick Murray of Oamaru, Most other chassis and fab work done by Luke Ennion (Franklin Speed Shop). Luke has just finished the last of the fabrication work so should have it home soon to carry on with engine work, brakes, fuel etc. IMG_6469.jpg

Just pushed mine out into the sun to get an overall look before I dig in for the home stretch of the build.
