DSC06913.JPG This bezel was in the car since the 50's along with an Autogauge tach mounted over it, added in the 60s. Still need to figure out what gauges and switches to use. The rear view mirror was cobbled together. DSC06168.JPG DSC06911.JPG

    Hello,

For 4 years I owned my first Flathead powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, the dash was colored like this, except, the LaSalle shifter was on the floor. The previous owner had taken out the 348 chevy motor and put in a flathead for power. now, it was lower in cost and affordable for me to purchase. The transmission came with the new flathead power.

The LaSalle transmission was fun to shift with the tall lever, and seemed bulletproof. The Flathead motor was underpowered, but was a reliable vehicle for our road trips all over So Cal and beyond. As long as any road trips did not have steep hills, like going to the local Big Bear Lake Mountains for winter skiing.

But, 10 years later, my wife liked a different 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery dash with the shifter in this position for our 327 powered Sedan Delivery. The 327 Sedan Delivery had bucket seats, too, but the dash was a brown color to go with the tan upholstery on the seats and in the big cave behind us. The walls had some insulation and was warm in the winter times back there. Even the rear door panel was upholstered.

So, what my wife and I saw every day for 6 years was a nice brown dash, an A/C unit under the lower part of the dash. Everything worked and it was fun driving around all over So Cal, inland, up the coast or down the coast towards San Diego. The local steep mountain ranges (2 hour drives) could not stop us from going up any steep roads.

The dash was simple enough for my wife to understand and knew the warning signs when she drove by herself. No cell phones at the time, but we never had to use the phone booths, either. It was a reliable 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery.

Life was simple for a teenager back then with the Flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery . My radio was a small portable Red Sony Handheld unit hanging from the rear view mirror. It had sounds and the rear cave made the hollow sound for a mini concert from a small speaker. I did try to hook up a larger speaker to the tiny radio, but the sound was terrible. The 327 sedan delivery had two 6x9 speakers in boxes that made a regular AM/FM stereo sound outstanding.

The dash of both sedan delivery hot rods were stock and did not have any fancy radios or tape players messing up a good design. We liked 40 fords and still consider getting one in our old age. It would be nice to see the old dash again while we resume our days after the pandemic to go on road trips all over So Cal and the continuing coastline up the pacific coast. It is still a possibility.

I always like dashboard threads. To me that is the area of a car where you can really make it yours. Here is a shot from my roadster. This style has been done before but it floats my boat!
