That's my dad, Jerry Smith, from Lazbuddie, Tex., racing at Albuquerque in c. 1969. He set the national speed record in B/MP in Amarillo in Sep 1969. Here are a few other pics from Amarillo, Austin, and possibly Roswell, New Mex.

69 rules state any size tire that will fit in wheel well for A and B classes all others use a 7 inch tire.

Yes, 11 inches, I think. I believe '69 was the first year they were allowed in B/MP. Before then, dad ran on 7" cheater slicks.

Thanks! My mom picked the color -- pretty sure it's a '64 Cadillac color called Lime Iridescent. Dad sold it in about '77, but we're chasing some leads to track it down. Fingers crossed!

This was Carroll's first hot rod -- and also his family car at the time. He'd drive it to the strip, swap out the rearend, race, and then swap out the rearend again for the drive home. He won his first drag racing trophy in this car. This pic was taken at Amarillo, Tex., probably in late-66 or early-67. Incidentally, the '55 behind Carroll's car belonged to my Dad, Jerry Smith, from Lazbuddie, Tex., who went on to set two national speed records in the car in NHRA's B/MP class in late-69. The black '57 behind my Dad's car belonged to Raybern Ott from Earth, Tex.
