Does anyone know if there is a supplier that makes Lincoln 317 y block pistons? Doesn’t seem to be very many parts available unless I’m looking in the wrong spots..

That is a tough one, you are probably looking at custom pistons unless you can use something else that shares a similar bore and pin size. The 3 13/16" bore is a bit odd, but maybe there is something newer out there. Flea-bay has a couple of listings for NOS pistons, that is always a crap shoot.

Have you checked with Egge Machine? They seem to have pistons for everything.

  6. I bought a 53 lincoln last fall, it was a complete car, sat indoors since 1962...With one head off. I have only been able to find one standard bore piston on ebay. My rebuilder says he can rebuild it, if i find the pistons. It was easier to swap in a 351( after buying another stuck motor, '57 lincoln 368)

I saw them.. at 95 bucks a pop.. I believe custom pistons are about the same price.. i just am looking at my options and was hoping for a more affordable place

Yeah I may have to look at something else.. I’m trying to keep it pre 1960. Was worth a shot though

3 13/16 bore is only .0625 away from 3 7/8 so that adds to your options. Get a piston book and look in the progressive size section and you might find something that could be modified. Might...

Says on the site they have no Lincoln parts, but man if I can get a hold of a y block I’m buying some of his goodies! This whole thing started because I was supposed to be getting a real nice 292 for my shoebox, but apparently the deal fell apart and he just didn’t have time to get ready for shipping, and I can’t wait anymore.. Chopolds has a Lincoln Y block but it definitely needs a complete rebuild.. I’m still trying to keep options open but I need to get a plan soon

I’m a y block guy, but if I was doing a swap into a shoebox that Lincoln would be near the end of my list. A rebuild for one of those is going to be a lot of money and trouble. Be really cool, but difficult. Very few speed parts available, even normal rebuild stuff is tough as you’re finding out.

Yeah.. it’s looking like it might be a dead end.. really wanted to do that 292 but wasn’t meant to be. A ford 292 or 312 is my first choice. The Lincoln was something available if I could get it to work.. but if worst comes to worst I still have the 282 the second owner put in the car back in the 60s.

Back when I was rebuilding my 312, he did keep some Lincoln stuff. However, I don't see any at all on his current website. It might be worth a call to see if he knows where you can get some pistons.

You might also try an email to Ted Eaton at http://eatonbalancing.com/. Seems to me he has some involvement with both the earlier Lincoln’s engines as well as the MEL series (I’m not real sure where the change is).

Saw a Lincoln 317 out of a 55 Big Job firetruck for sale in Crossville, TN. last week. The seller sent me a link of him starting and running it. Odometer showed mileage in the 20 thousand range. it was set up as a 5 speed ( New Process, I think? ), and he wanted $1200 for the motor. Ad was for a 55 Ford F800 firetruck on FB. Seller was keeping the cab, and selling the drivetrain, I think.
Damn tempting, except for my lack of recent progress on my projects, and 6 Y blocks in various condition I already have.
Sounded smooth in the video, but that doesn't show much.

Can these Y blocks be bored out and sleeved???? You might be able to re use your old pistons....

I think a big one like that would look good in an open engine bay hot rod. Kinda on my wish list.
