Went to bed late last evening with things as prepared as possible.
Woke up this morning and checked out the weather. Oh man this
is going to be bad, very bad. Hurricane Ida is just offshore and slightly
west of the New Orleans area. Category 4 and may be a 5 soon. That
makes little difference a cat 4 insures massive destruction and will
literally destroy the small bayou towns lying in the path of this storm.
The storm surge and high winds are our afternoon expectations. There
were massive levy and flood protection projects implemented in the
16 years since Katrina assailed this area. Billions spent. Now it appears
the gulf waters may breach the top of these systems. If that happens
it liken to filling a bowl as the flood protection systems keep the waters
in place as opposed to keeping water out.
My son is a police officer and tells me there have been reports of thugs
moving about looking take advantage of the situation and prey on peoples
properties that have evacuated the area. It seems folks monitor their properties
remotely and are spotting these bastards prowling about. All I can say it wont
go well for anyone caught doing this in Orleans or Jefferson where I live. The
cops here dont abide those trying to take advantage of a dire situation. They
did not during Katrina and will not now. Extended power losses are going to
happen through out the lower areas of the state. Including here probably starting
this afternoon. Chaotic days ahead. "Its on!" as the saying goes.

  5. Was mobilized to New Orleans when Katrina hit. Complete devastation. Unbelievable scenes. You all be careful. If you are hunkered down we are thinking of you and praying that you come out the other side.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Power is out just blocks from here.
I expect to loose mine soon. It has not gotten bad yet but the power
infrastucture here along with most eveything is very fragile. Entergy
raises our rates constantly. They spent 0 dollars on upgrades and only
effect band aid repairs when it is unavoidable. That is what happens when
a state has the most corrupt politicians in the U.S. second only to maybe
Mexico. I am very well armed and will book no bullshit whatever. The
crime here has exploded in the last two years. Go figure. I virtually go
armed at all times even when putting out my trash or retrieving the mail
from the box. Damn the lights are flickering. Wont be long now.

Nothing material is worth your life. If you have to go, please do. Nobody on here wants to see an " In Memoriam " with your name on it. Best of luck to you.

I am cautious and prepared. I am confident that we will be okay. We have a very strong neighbor hood community of friends in this area. Many are business owners with considerable resources and stand ready to lend a
hand at a moments notice. There were armed patrols of guys on atvs
and such checking on one another and folks in general during and after Katrina blew through here in 05. My shop where I work on my hamb
vehicles and do light fab work as well is 1 1/2 miles away. The fellows I
rent from and who operate a custom mill shop in the main part of the
building live just a block away and look after things there with diligence.
All of these factors help give folks here about a degree of cautious confidence. I was 17 when Hurricane Betsy came in 1965. Camille
in 69. We are much better prepared now.

  17. I am wishing you the best, but material things are not worth you life. If you need to,... exit, stage left.....or at least seek higher ground, it gives a better shooting angle.
