my heads are at the machine shop now. they are 241 low deck dodge red ram hemi heads. the 241 and 270 heads use the same exhaust valve but the intake valve is larger on the 270. my shop wants an extra 50 bucks labor to machine the heads for the larger 270 intake valves, might as well go for it, right? does anyone know the sizes?
I have a 53 Dodge service manual at home that has complete specs but I'm at the frog follies right now. if nobody replies with an answer to your question I'll try to remember to look it up when I get home. Lynn
i used to have that book. loaned it out and never got it back. you see what people are asking for it now?
Rick - If you do go for the larger intake valves (a good idea), be SURE to either you or have someone...blend and reshape the bowl after the new seats have been ground. Especially the short turn radius area. Remove all hard/sharp edges, round/reshape the area just prior to the seat. Don't make this a straight path to the seat. It can be difficult, but if possible... Otherwise the larger valve will have little positive effect in air/fuel flow. Mike
$50 sounds pretty reasonable. I agree with mike vv on the blending and short turn radius. The shop probably won’t include that for the price but prices were I’m at are much higher. And I did buy that book 10 years ago and can’t believe what guys are asking now. Silent Rick if you haven’t seen the Hemi index here it’s worth a look.
The big bosses around the intake guides could be cut down. From the 241 to the 325, each new head casting had the bosses lowered until they were eliminated in the 325’s. The D500’s had more cam but the milder 325 made more power with the bosses gone.
