Taken somewhere near Lake Tahoe sometime in 1966.

Eye of who is looking can be right or very bent (wrong) ! >By there own pre-set ideas =Those that did not grow up with color vs those that did in photos{ Older n younger combind with what they want to believe matchs there own pre-set idea,even if wrong!!. Point is,it leads to miss reads of what they think they see in a photo ,an often to them backs up there wrong take on what they see..

I'm using my own photo of my own rod to help,but it could be any of 1000s of old photos.
This pic is from earlyer in 1959,of me putting together my 28A hot rod. Someone with out knowing the facts, will maybe see it as not what is in photo. So here is what really is;;

It is just a shot of first assm. for testing fit an what will work,drive around the block a few times to find bugs ect. This as seen in pic ,was that way for only a few days. Then many things got redone,>new headers built, body parts taken off an smooth more for shinny gloss black/note frame is already shinny gloss black before adding body for fit.

The point is,if your one of those who live in the bubble idea of "Hot Rod Flat Black bull shit"="That hot rods from the 50s n 60s were primer as a finish"
Than you likely saw something to back up your idea? But for most hot rod an custom builders of the 50s n 60s,the plan was always to paint it shiny,and nearly all were primer before they got shiny!! And yes ,they some times took photos of them as primer prep before shiny<but should not be thought as the finish!!! No one thought it was a finish at that point in the 50s or 60s.
Some guys even think they see pirmer finish in old black n white car mag's, but its just not a color pic,an not primer.
How shiny had a lot to do with skill,but a satin look was a failed paint job or not buffed out yet.
Look more an harder,at old photos,adjust your head,so you don't see every thing as BS primer,when more then likely it is shiny,but black an white pic.
At some time,not long off,all us old guys that really built rods n custom in the 1950s n 60 will not be around to set this stuff straight. At that time,real history can get twisted as it is stating too already;just cuz Oooo you think you like primer so well. You'll defend to the death a bubble of primer BS was a hot rod finish< Nope.
A few never made it to shiny,lazy or gave up,not the guys you want to copy. An same goes for engineering mistakes,yes they were made,but know one that knew better did those an nether should you copy stupid stuff.
If you only got mad from my note,sorry you really missed learning anything.trying to help,as I can't take you back to when I was doing this stuff in the 50s n 60s,as much fun as that would really be !!

Still have my first rod in that upper pic,an drive on nice weekends,but I' now 2 days from 79th BD. Built a number of others as well.
