View attachment 5151450 Not really HAMB material, but it does have history. My Dad bought this truck new shortly after high school. He hot rodded it and was pretty well known around Dayton for the truck. He sold it in the early seventies for a more family friendly Sedan. The truck stayed on the local streets for a few years, then kind of disappeared. I’ve always kept my eye open for it, and today I bought it. Pretty cool to have it back in the family.
I know you’re not looking for suggestions. But I think I’d have to locate a proper hood for it, then glass and see about driving the wheels off of it! Edit: Did your dad ever get all the glass in it? Looking at the pic when it was his I can see the rear glass, but looks like it doesn’t have the windshield in it yet.
That's a great story Berzerk but only a teaser. How long you been looking for it? Where did you find it? Latest pictures? Congratulations on the find and Good Luck. Pat
Yep, that's me in the picture! Like I said, Dad bought the truck new, and kept it until the early seventies. It had all different styles through the time he had it, but he ended up having the top chopped in the early seventies. That's when the scoop and tube grill was added (it was different times). He got rid of the truck, and it was around town for a few years, then kinda disappeared. When my Dad was still alive, he would get guys telling him it was in another town in a garage, etc. Once I got old enough to care, I kept my eye open for it, and heard the same stories that it was in a garage here, or in a shed there. A couple years ago, a local shop owner posted on Facebook that he had found the truck that he loved seeing on the streets when he was a kid (He said back then the truck looked like it should have been a Hot Wheel). I saw that it was my Dad's truck, and gave him some information on it. Last week I saw that he had retired and sold his business. I messaged him and told him if he wanted to sell the truck, I would buy it, and here we are. The gentleman I bought it from has installed a IFS, Four Bar Rear, moved the gas tank, etc. I'm still giddy that I was able to get it back, so I haven't even thought about what I am going to do with it. Here are a few more pictures of it through the years...
Yeah, it is what it is. My favorite time of the truck is the late fifties/early sixties with big and little tires, four inch exhaust out the back, Vette 283 SBC and 4 Speed. Too much has been done to take it back to that, so it will be a great driver with a lot of sentimental meaning...
Well it sounds like your Dad made changes as time went by, so revive it and drive it while making it your own version and enjoy good memories while creating your own good times!
Congratulations! Enjoy, and make it yours...just like your Dad made changes along the way, so can you. Deep down, you will always know it's "Dad's truck".
Other than the add on Ford Tear Drop scoop - it definitely is HAMB material. Custom through and through. Nice to see it back in your family ( meaning you ) and being your Dads previously - that's pretty special. Congrats.
