Any drag roadsters or similar back in the day run solid rear wheels and a different front like a torque thrust? Saw this pic and got me thinking it could be a cool combo if both were magnesium/had that look.
many, if not most, drag cars back then had different wheels front and back. The fronts shown look a bit wide though
Yea I’d run 15x4 up front most likely. Seen tons of mismatch setups in a lot of threads but don’t recall seeing specifically solid reads and torque thrust fronts
I think the "solid" rears were some of the first "mag" wheels I saw used on drag cars in Hot Rod. Many times paired with steel front wheels.
Back in the 60's many guys I knew including myself had their recap street slicks or racing slicks mounted up on steel wheels for their daily drivers, changed out when needed. The recap street slicks we bought back then were superior to any regular road tire but not good in rainy weather IMO and in Wisconsin it rains plenty, also stock wheels/ offset fit into wheel wells and wide rims were not needed. I never had slicks and even back then the police would pull you over and ticket you for them and safety inspect your car. Mismatched wheels pretty common from my memory.
Looking specifically for solid rear wheels and different fronts, not steelie rears. Solid rears like halibrands. I’ve looked through tons of threads and haven’t seen any.
Not dragsters but when I was in HS in the late '60's it was pretty common for guys to run solid wheels in the rear and Torq Thrusts up front or as we called them at the time 5 spoke Americans.
It makes sense for racers to use 2 different rims/wheels...a solid, heavy, strong rear wheel for torque/traction etc. and a lighter type front rim/wheel for better weight transfer.
