  3. 200 amps may prove to be a bit light. Typical V8 starter draw can be in the 200 to 300 amp range. While these will undoubtedly work for at least a while, the higher the current the shorter the contact life. These are used in electric winches, replacement relays are commonly available because of relatively high failure rates.

says it has a 3 milliamp draw, and is suitable for cars with 2.5 liter or smaller engines. That's about 150 cubic inches.

Looks like a solution looking for a problem?

I have the one in Dan Hays post above; it is installed on the ground cable mounted in a handy location.

A cheap chinese electronic product supposed to handle several hundred amps? As much as I like a nice bonfire, it's a no from me.

Good answers that why i asked. No china BBQ for me . So does the cole Hersee 24200 solenoid draw power when latched off ? Don’t think want to go out after a few weeks and find a dead battery. We don’t want to use the removable plastic key style in this build, sure they work great, but we want something more discreet.

A CAT master switch is very simple and very HD, a D11 dozer uses one lol. The drag race ones are patterned after them, but the CAT switch has a removable key

It's from China! Why would you even consider it? Just put a battery shut off from a local auto parts store. It shouldn't be hard to find one.

Does the battery in the remote control have its own cutoff? Just curious.

For the H/D circuit ,mount a Ford starter solenoid at the battery and run a starter switch wire to it.
That way the circuit is as dead as a dodo unless cranking.
The rest of the circuitry can usually handled by a 40a isolator switch

This is how we did it on our race car.

  19. I like this one, too.

The previous owner of my Chevy AD truck eliminated all the door locks but at least he put a cutoff in. The Advance Design trucks locate the battery under the passenger side floorboard so the cutoff is right there under the seat, flush with the floor. You want the detachable key/handle like the one above so you can carry it in your pocket while the vehicle is parked. Box or shield it and consider anti-tamper screws to discourage hacking and theft.

I have a battery disconnect latching relay like used in motor homes in my roadster and am putting one in the coupe I’m building. Easy to install, activated by a momentary pushbutton switch that can be hidden anywhere. No draw in either position.

  22. - Don't laugh, but I have been involved with load testing some of this chinese electrical crap, and their rating is nowhere near what is claimed . Things like solid state relays (SSR'S) have a spec rating of say 50 amps, but the main component can only handle 25 amps, and it has the part number stamped on it, stating it's rating! I had a bunch of these fail at 80% rated load, and couldn't figure out why until I broke the potting out and investigated it.
So 100 Chinese amps = 50 imperial amps as a general rule if you are stuck with buying this junk.

  23. Are metric amps the same as British amps?

No. Those are British Standard Whitworth Amps.

    Those tend to leak out.

    No ,they are different.
For some reason only Lucas amps cause an exothermic reaction.:D
Whereas normal British Amps [Smiths etc] seem OK

That is what I use. Very few people have the specific key for them. Works great.
