Good luck with the inspection. I've got a pair of fenders in the loft that I thought were pretty rough, but after seeing yours, now I think they're not too bad!
These fenders came with a 32 pickup I bought last year. They are junk and I nearly tossed them...but remembered eventually I could use them for this purpose. I don't have any other fenders, the rears are some trailer fenders I bought for my trailer years ago, but they fit pretty good
If they are real sticklers, you better throw a windshield wiper, an outside mirror, and a hood top on it too.
I think it’s about ready for tomorrow. I have a hood for it I’ll take, good call on the wiper…I’ll rig something on it. Put the seat from my 34 roadster in it, horn mounted, outside mirror. I believe aside form a wiper, it’s ready. Kind of fun mocking it together. It will be interesting to see the experience. I’ve done this before, but with complete vehicles. So it was never a thought
If I saw that at a swap meet, I'd be all over it like a duck on a junebug! Very cool...and fun to see it mocked together!
Well…inspection was done. I’m glad I had the hood and seat in. It wouldn’t have passed. The officer also told me things like lights, wipers, etc do not matter to WA state. They just want a car with all the major components. I had the hood in the back of the truck and that was good enough for them. I also had the official 1932 Ford book for reference which came in handy while locating the VIN numbers. The officer inspected the vin, went inside, came out and informed me that vin is currently being used in PA :/ So I asked what that meant. Basically, they call PA and work with them to determine if the PA car indeed has that vin and if so, is it legit. The officers took pics of all three areas on a 32 frame where the vin is on my car, and told me it’s a legit as it gets (very early frame, very early VIN). He said worst case, WA state will assign it a new vin code. I don’t really care, I just want to get the process started. So it’s stalled for a bit until they talk to the PA DMV. The experience was a good one tho, both officers were very polite and down to earth, told me I really don’t have anything to worry about as apparently this happens more often than you may think. And nothing about the car is illegal or fraudulent, most possibly human error or fraud on the other car. Also, while I waited, several WA State Patrolman came over and bullshitted old cars, which was cool. Despite the setback, it was a good experience. So, we will see. For now I just wait for the two states to do their thing.
If it had a floor in it youda had to lift the body to see all three ID spots. Lucky it was an old hot rod.
Looks pretty cool all mocked up. Congrats on step 1 being done. You waste no time, I respect that. That holey fender cracks me up.
Without those fenders--bad as they are--the WA State Patrol would have classified the car as a "streetrod." That's what they did with mine, and it's noted on the title. I didn't give a rip, just happy to have a clear title. But some guys care about that stuff.
Thanks for documenting the procedure, have a 34 chassis and most parts except for a body. If I ever get the rest I’d have to do the same.
Thanks for sharing this inspection experience Chris. I need to get my 39 project inspected and this helps me know what to have on the car when I go. This info could possibly save me a trip or two to the WSP.
I'm curious how the whole PA thing will turn out....I bet that guy looses his registration/title. As you most definitely have the original frame. What does that make his?
It may not exist anymore but still be on a registry perhaps as their records may reach back further into the dusty past...or they may have sold the old dirty frame for a repro or more decent 32 frame, homemade tube or OT chassis not realizing the number on the Ownership was registered to the old frame...
Maybe Mr. Penn has the transmission? As we know, Chris doesn't have the original body on the numbered frame, maybe the other guy doesn't have the oringal body with his trans either.
