Appears there is some evidence that the car may have made it's way into the Charlotte, N.C. area. No thoughts on whether it's fate is to be parted out. Just asking everyone to keep your eyes peeled. Thanks for any help that may come of this!
We spend thousands of dollars on our cars to make them ours but the one thing we don't think about is how to handle a theft like this. I'm building mine and already looking for a GPS system that can be installed during the final build where no one will even think one is hiding. I am considering contacting the major GPS commercial tracking companies to talk about working out something for the street rodding community at a low rate since they charge a monthly or yearly rate. I've also been looking at the systems that you can monitor yourself with an outright purchase. Hagerty may have a program for those that don't use their cars for daily driving. I'll be checking with my agent. Best of luck getting it back. Hope they find the car with the idiot driving it and through the book at it. Someone needs to have a serious talk with his neighbor soon.
The problem with some of the tracking devices is that they are either battery powered or run off of your battery. All they have to do is unhook the battery and if battery powered youll have to keep fresh batteries in the device. People kept stealing trailers around my town a few years back. The sheriff's department put up some decoy trailers at a rest stop on the highway with tracking devices. The battery went dead on the first one but they were still able to recover it and the second one finally caught the guy.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own or use any apple products Just found this online today and it MAY be a cheap solution to tracking stolen cars. But I'm no expert on iphones or anything apple. https://www.foxnews.com/auto/apple-airtag-good-stolen-vehicle-locator

I don't know about all this Apple stuff. Didn't Adam and Eve have problems with an apple way back when
Headlights, canvas top, running board rubbers, different fender color. But at a quick look, get the hand cuffs!
I think there was a snake in the woodpile back then and another one this time. We have been warned not to post violent expressions against the perp, but maybe 'expressions' of justice will be allowed. So, only after due diligence by a jury of his peers, 30 days in the electric chair with a new fuse and a good ground seems appropriate.
Nope. I hit the Apple store up a few weeks ago and they said it sends a message to the closest available phone . They said it was to prevent stalking etc. so as soon as you pinged it, it would notify the thief. Awesome.
One more anti tracking device to overcome any form of tracking your ride. Seal it in a shipping container.

In my shop I use cameras inside and outside the building along with a few other neat products. Some of my cameras are visible and some are not. Jimbo
Thanks for the bumps, but think a happy ending is drifting away. Detactive on the case suspects the car may have stayed in Florida. Hopefully, time will tell.
Unfortunately outside of those that are specifically targeted to be stuck in a container and shipped somewhere that the buyer doesn't care how they were obtained as long as they end up in their collection I'd say that the majority of hot rods that are stolen are stole for their parts. Either to take apart and sell the parts or to complete a very similar car without paying for the part or without paying market price for the parts. = the tweaker who will steal anything you want for XX dollars delivered to your back door in the dark. Word of someone who is either building or repairing a same year and model (could be a coupe) of car who all the sudden is making big progress within 50 to 100 miles. Word of a similar car that got wrecked in the area that is being repaired. They busted a restoration shop in Oregon a few years ago that increased his profit level and the speed of his restorations quite a bit by using stolen cars as parts cars to restore his customers cars.
Anyone heard of Apple Airtags? I just came across them on another forum. If you have an I phone you can use them on anything. Battery last 1 year and you can track anywhere seems like. They're super affordable and would be great for our hotrods. They even make dog collars with them. https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/apple-airtag-tips
We have had a LoJack in our 50 Chevy Convertible for years. The only problem is whether the locals have the system to track it. Also kinda spendy.
